Not that he's desperate or anything, but how is he supposed to find his person if his mark is his last name? That’s like, a total jerk move. But it's okay. Eddie ignores the flip flopping in his stomach as he meets Steve’s gaze and fits his palms to either side of Steve’s jaw. Cradles his face like he’s something special now. (Because he is.)
And then he leans in to kiss him. Right on those pretty pink lips of his.
It’s short and sweet like it always is, but when Eddie pulls back and opens his eyes, he’s met with Steve’s, wide as fucking saucers, goggling unblinkingly back at him. He can feel Robin’s stare boring into the side of his face, can feel the tiny pinpricks of Nancy’s and Jonathan’s and Argyle’s on his back too. The whole room is quiet enough to hear a god damn pin drop.
Eddie is about to open his mouth and ask what the hell that’s all about when it finally catches up with him.
He just fucking kissed Steve fucking Harrington. On the mouth.

Eddie leans forward a little and squeezes Steve’s shoulder. He whispers, “Or maybe I just want to see you when there is not 20 five-year-olds staring at me.”
From this proximity, Steve can smell his cologne and lingering car oil. He can feel his brain cells dying every second he inhales the intoxicating aroma. Steve breathes shallowly, too aware of the growing blush on his cheeks, and says, “S-sure. I’d like that.”
Eddie smirks and has the audacity to wink before going to each of his kids, ruffling their hair, and kissing them goodbye with a big wet smack on their cheeks. He passes by Steve again and murmurs, “I won’t say goodbye to you like that. Not yet, at least. Good luck with my little gremlins” before walking out the door.

Not to mention,” he continues, blissfully unaware of the silence that’s fallen since he started talking, “there’s the whole continuity thing about the different types of elves and their hair color. Like, Galadriel’s type of elves were meant to be blonde but Elrond’s were meant to be dark hair? Plus there’s the fact that Arwen’s hair is black –”
Steve suddenly realizes that the sound of teenagers arguing is gone. He looks up from his game to find the entire room staring at him, ranging from awe (Dustin) to disbelief (Mike) to something that makes Steve think of girls in high school adjusting their shirts so that he could see them almost flashing him (Eddie.) “Oh,” Steve says.

Whatever Dustin expected Steve to do, it definitely wasn’t for him to just blurt out, “Brenda.”
Seriously? Not even Dustin had managed to get her name yet and now here Steve was, just giving it to Billy without even putting up an argument. Though, Dustin figured as he looked around the room filled with their friends who were watching the situation unfold with rapt attention, the cat - or rather Steve's secret girlfriend - was already out of the bag.
“Brenda?” Billy said, making such a profoundly disgusted face that Dustin couldn’t help but jump in to defend her.
“Yeah, Brenda,” Dustin said. “And she’s awesome.”

“What?” Billy sits up, blearily rubbing his eyes with the fingers of one hand.
“Downstairs.” Steve grips Billy’s bicep. “I heard something.”
Sure enough, the sound of glass smashing on the hardwood floors downstairs makes them both freeze.
Billy waits a moment before reacting. “Where’s your baseball bat?”
“Under the bed.”
Billy scrambles out of bed and pulls on his underwear. “Stay here, ok?” He fumbles under the bed and retrieves the bat with the nails, giving it a practise swing.
“I’m not letting you go alone,” Steve snorts, pulling a t-shirt over his head (Billy’s t-shirt, he realises as he smells the cigarette smoke). He’s fought monsters more terrifying than any intruder they could come across and there’s no way in hell he’s letting Billy go without backup.
“Stay behind me, Princess,” is all Billy says in reply; a whispered compromise.
