“Steve Rogers,” Bucky repeats, mouth twisting bitterly. “Captain America. The same Captain America who’s buried in ice, who fucking sacrificed his fool ass to stop the Red Skull, who crashed a motherfucking plane into goddamn ice nine days ago.”
“Twelve,” Steve corrects a little numbly, because that’s the easiest part he can address. “I went down on February 2nd. It took them a while to determine whether or not to let the public know. To weigh the demoralization my death will cause against the vengeful heroics my sacrifice will inspire. Clearly, they decided on the latter eventually, but I’ve been told it was pretty close.”

When Steve uses the last of his Pym Particles to travel to 1944 and save his best friend, he doesn’t have a plan beyond leaving behind the battlefield and living his life alongside the people he loves.

For a few seconds Sam was too stunned to do anything but stare at the scene before his eyes, his brain trying to make sense of what he saw. Then a horrible sickness washed over him and he felt his heartbeat accelerating.
“Bucky!” he bolted out the door and raced to the front of the car, looking around frantically.
“Bucky!” he called once more, only to be met by silence and darkness. Panic took hold of him, as Sam moved around to the driver’s side door.
He didn’t even see him at first. The pair of legs was barely illuminated amid the shadows of the forest and the faint red glow of the tail lights.

Bucky shrugs, both shoulders moving easily. ‘Got the all clear. Turns out it was just a graze. My shirt got the worst of it.’
The men look at each other, a silent consultation. Bucky rolls his eyes. ‘Whaddya want me to do, star-jumps? Anyway, I bring gifts.’
He burrows into the duffle bag he’s carrying, pulls out bars of soap, chocolate, packets of cigarettes.
‘Where the hell you get these?’ Gabe Jones sounds affronted but he still grabs the proffered bounty.
‘Ask me no questions, I’ll tell you no lies.’
Dugan grins, big blonde moustache quivering. ‘Mother Hen Barnes is in the coop!’ The packet of cigarettes he’s caught one corner of remains resolutely in the sergeant’s grip. ‘Papa Wolf?’ The blue eyes remain cold. Dugan sighs. ‘Thanks, Sarge.’

James "Bucky" Barnes is a homeless veteran with a dark past. He's accepted to a six-month shelter program meant to help veterans get back on their feet, and he has his work cut out for him. He needs to find a job, save up money, and hopefully get his own place, but he keeps getting sidetracked by his attraction to Steve Rogers, one of the therapists in the program.
Steve is kind, smart, funny, and clearly in a relationship... but Bucky can't help feeling that Steve is interested in him too.
More issues arise when Bucky's past deeds begin to impact his future and the things he wants aren't something he feels he deserves.
Can he begin to heal himself so he can finally live?

Sam goes to the still-open door, keeping the shield up and covering his center mass just in case anyone’s about to attack. He peers carefully up and down the hallway, but it’s empty save for a baby’s car seat or carrier sitting on the floor, along with two huge mint-green diaper bags and…a bouquet? With balloons? The balloons, Sam notes with confusion and dawning alarm, say CONGRATS! IT’S A GIRL!
“Who the fuck left us a baby?” asks Sam.
Sam and Bucky never planned on becoming dads. It turns out that life, and Zemo, have other plans for them.
