V's symptoms were getting worse by the minute. Optics glitching at the worst time possible, hands unable to grip things properly, and that constant rattling inside his chest, like his lungs were filling up with blood and getting ready for the next burst of coughs.
V prayed it wouldn't happen now, as he mustered the most confident and relaxed expression he could manage and waltzed into the room like he owned the place, the same way he had seen Kerry do hundreds of times at elite parties or social gatherings he didn't really want to be.
Thinking about Kerry infused him with courage and strength again as a natural smile opened onto his lips. He had promised Kerry he would be back and there was no way he was going to give up now.-----
V is dying, and so desperate to find a cure that he makes a pact with a devil. Kerry got left behind and has to deal with V's disappearance and some creepy encounters.

V spread his legs wider, aligning them with his shoulders, knees bending a little. His bare feet were planted on the patch of fake grass beneath him, toes wiggling between the strands to enjoy the sensation he so rarely had the opportunity to savor.
He was leaning forward a little, his back arched and his arms hanging down straight, pointing towards the ground. A rolled-up joint tucked behind his ear and an unsure expression on his face as he kept glancing back at Kerry, waiting for a sign of approval.

Everything is going on fine in V’s life: born and raised as a bodyguard by the Arasaka’s family, his life has always been planned, logical, controlled. Except for the visions that sometimes trigger in his brain seemingly at random. Sensations of hands ghosting over his body and of lips trailing over his skin. Voices too; warm, laughing, whispering in his ear. And a word: Beloved.
It all comes crashing down when Saburo Arasaka travels all the way from Japan to meet his son at the Konpeki Plaza on the same night two mercs raid the suite looking for a piece of tech. As Yorinobu-sama’s personal bodyguard, V is sent to deal with the intruders while the heir investigates his father’s mysterious death by poisoning.
In the penthouse, V fights off the thieves, but everything stops when one of his opponents finally sees his face and freezes. It seems like this merc, which V recognizes as Kerry Eurodyne, one of the top dogs of the Afterlife, knows him. Strange thing is, V is sure they’ve never met. Not in this lifetime, at least.
Using V’s distraction over the eerie meeting, Eurodyne disarms him and makes his escape with his accomplice, but not without leaving a plea against V’s lips: come to The Afterlife.Series
