    Macaque knows loneliness. He still feels it wrap around his heart and cling, cling, cling like it’s begging him to never let go. He still shies away from touch, because it melts the ice-cold he’s grown used to. He still hides, he hides from Sun, he hides from MK and his friends, he hides from Lady Bone Demon (she’s gone now, she’s gone now she’sgonenowshecanthurtyouanymore), he hides from himself. He knows the pain, knows the heartache, knows the fire that feels like it’s eating you up inside, and he knows that fire can burn you out like a lit match.

    He knows because he’s burnt, he’s broken, he’s freezing and burning and dying and being revived all at once.

    So, when he hears (eavesdrops) that Sun Wukong is withdrawing, moping more than usual, not sleeping (their eye bags almost match, he thinks when he catches glimpses of the hero, and then he wonders why that hurts him so much), he knows that the monkey is feeling that same loneliness.

    And he’s going to do something about it.
