Summary
It felt like home, a real home that was just theirs, and they'd only been too happy to call it an early evening.
Having Verso in his arms was surreal after all these months of dating, of dancing around the topic and gaining increasing ground in the other's apartment. At least until a week ago, when Verso's lease finally ended and he'd settled into Gustave's humble abode.
Gustave breathed, a content hum escaping him as he settled with lazy kisses to Verso's neck. The omega's scent was never particularly strong, its earthy scents easily masked by the cologne he sometimes wore instead. Here, now, in their bed — theirs, theirs! — it was prominent, a gentle thing that smelled like calm and home with a delicate sweetness.

Casual touches that before felt friendly, loving, comfortable, suddenly felt just a bit more charged.
It wasn’t really a tension in the air between them, just like it never really had been before, simply an inevitability.
A fixed point.
Gustave brushes past Lune cooking breakfast the next morning, a hand on her waist as he grabs sugar for his coffee and she lets out an exhale, not quite a gasp but more than a breath. Sciel’s hand lingers as it drags over Verso’s shoulders whenever he practices the piano.
Verso traces the outlines of Lune’s arm tattoo while the four of them watch trash on tv. Lune tucks a wayward curl behind Gustave’s ear before they go out to eat.
All of the touches could be explained as casual.
They weren’t.

Or: Gustave navigates resurrection in the wake of Maelle taking over the canvas, and meets a not-so-stranger he cannot place in his memory.

A brand-new nightclub just opened in Downtown Lumière!
People have come from far and wide to dance their cares away, lost in a swirling sea of lights, bodies, and thumping music. It's not the type of place one typically meets the love of their life. More likely, they'll just meet a passing fancy, who breezes out just as quickly as they breeze in.
Not the type of place Gustave would typically go, and to be honest, Verso isn't too keen on the scene, either. But when they're each invited by their friends, what's the harm in tagging along and forgetting their own troubles?
After all, everyone can stand to cut loose every once in a while.

The puppy licks his wrist. Verso chuckles.
“Let me see if I have anything for you, yeah?” he reaches into his bag. “Where’s your collar, buddy? You don’t belong here too, do you? I wish I could take you with me.”
He wishes the animals could survive on the Continent. He misses having a dog — he doesn’t even care if this is something painted into him or not. If that Verso liked dogs too — well, the man clearly had good taste.
Or: Verso meets a dog during his visits to Lumière and only years later gets to learn who was its owner. There might be some treats involved.

They’ve not seen each other since the fateful night of the concert. Since the night Verso left Lumière to never come back.
