A sultry voice echoed from the shadows, “Oh Bea, I’m no stranger.” The figure stepped into the light. Beatrice looked up at the familiar voice and her breath caught in her throat. Standing before her in a sassy red Santa dress that left little to the imagination was none other than Ava, a cheeky grin playing on her lips as their eyes met.

Ava Silva was the only kid in her class who said hi to her every morning, all five of them so far, and did it with a bright smile on her face, so Beatrice knew she meant it. More importantly, Ava had offered her gummy snacks from her packed lunch earlier in the day. Ava gave her all the strawberry flavored ones, which everyone knew were the best flavor, and that meant Ava was Beatrice’s best friend in the whole world.
Unfortunately for Harry Jenkins, Ava's best friend took jiu jitsu classes.

From the road, Ava could only make out their broadest features: a woman in a white tank top, her muscled shoulders tanned from the sun, an axe dangling casually in one hand. She had already placed a log in front of her, and as Ava watched she lifted the axe above her head and swung it downwards in a single fluid motion, the taut muscles of her arms working so perfectly with the axe they might have all been one. The log split easily into two, as though she were cutting through paper, and the woman picked up the two halves to place them into a neat stack nearby.
“Ah,” Schaefer said, catching the line of her gaze, “That’s Beatrice. Your new neighbor. Don’t mind her too much, she’s a little… eccentric.”
Ava liked eccentric. She also liked women who looked like they could tear her in half without too much effort. She had a feeling she was going to like Beatrice a lot.

It was a rainy September afternoon when Ava first saw the nun.
She was cutting through the arts and theater building to avoid the downpour, her sneakers squeaking shamefully on the nice tile floor as she hurried through, hoping she'd be able to make it her to the student union without getting any more waterlogged and damning herself for the thousandth time for not bringing an umbrella, when she happened to notice someone leaning against the wall of a hallway as she passed. She slowed down and realized the person was a nun, navy blue habit and all. And she looked like she was having a panic attack.
Ava keeps running into a nun around campus and they become friends. Just friends, of course, Ava is definitely not developing a crush.

“Hellooo? I said Houston, do you copy?”
Caitlyn fiddled with her headset, having finally found the green button on the side and hastily letting out a rather breathless reply. “Um, yes. Hello? This is Houston. I copy.”
There was a long pause in which Caitlyn sat twiddling her thumbs, anxiety pushing the frantic pulse of her heartbeat through her eardrums. Was that wrong? Did she already fuck up? She took a steady deep breath, finger hovering over the talk button until the familiar voice of the astronaut came through her headset once more.
“Damn, Houston. I didn’t expect you to sound so sexy.”

Caitlyn has been assigned as the personal capcom to one of the astronauts currently on a year long expedition at the international space station. Cue long months of pining and desperate longing.
