Summary
The sun never rises in Cloud City. Owned by distant gods, the world creaks along in techno-magical paralysis, making Contracts with spirits, and limping along in isolated enclaves while monsters run wild in the Wastes.
Five years ago, Arthur Lester, a private investigator, made a Contract with a Summon called Hastur. The deal? His soul in exchange for the identity of his daughter's murderer. Until the time Arthur's soul is ripe for harvesting, Hastur will give him power, and eventually must find Faroe's killer. If he doesn't, they both die, so failure is not an option.
Hastur, however, is not a normal Summon... and it turns out he's come here and chosen Arthur in order to stop a threat that will destroy the entire universe if it succeeds.
Unfortunately, humans aren't meant to channel power like Hastur's, and Arthur's body is beginning to break down. It's a race against time to solve Faroe's murder and stop the incoming threat before he simply drops dead.

To be living with the living?The ritual to escape the Dark World worked almost perfectly: the entity awoke in a perfectly suitable body, with the last remnants of the human he stole tucked away in his eyes and in his head. A relatively minor complication, since he otherwise commanded full control of their shared vessel. The human, (formerly) a private investigator named Arthur Lester, could even prove to be a useful guide through this unfamiliar world as they worked to discover- who he was in the first place, for a start.

When private investigator Arthur Lester starts looking into the death of a programmer, a new, more vicious program moves into his Receptor and begins taking control of his body. He is forced to rely on this program as they work together to find its source, learning how to both navigate the world and trust their new partner.

The director and writer can't agree on how much to follow the new Hays Codes, and they each have dubious patrons with their own agendas. Summary

But among the rich and famous diners are two unexpected guests: "Andrew" Larson, Arthur's one time nemesis, and Peter Yang, back from the dead but not quite right. After an awkward dinner, and an introduction to a mysterious supernatural artifact, a corpse is discovered. It's up to Arthur and John to solve the murder and stop the artifact before it unleashes its eldritch magic on them all.
Or is it? Maybe instead, Arthur and Peter fool around in the back room and they miss the drama. Maybe Arthur and John can stop the murder entirely. In this Choose Your Own Adventure there are multiple endings and more than one way to make it to midnight.
