Vegas wonders how often he does this. Wonders who else has seen Pete like this in a sweater and black athletic shorts and fluffy socks, smiling at him like he is the best thing he’s seen all day.
Vegas knows for a fact that can’t be true. He is usually the worst part of someone’s day. But he pads forward anyway, socks quiet on the rug, feeling his stomach flip as Pete looks up at him with an unfairly soft expression.

Summary
When a client refuses to sign a contract without hearing from Vegas that he can trust Porsche as the new leader of the Theerapanyakun Minor Family, Kinn and Porsche are forced to go and ask Vegas and Pete for help. Even though Kinn believes that Pete is unhappy where he is, and that Vegas is doing nothing but manipulating him like he's done everyone else.
Except when they get to the meeting, things go south, Pete gets hurt, and everyone around them realise that Vegas hasn't been faking a damn thing.

Before, they were only as close as Billy let anyone get, but lately the distance between them has been shrinking. He’s not the kind of guy who likes to talk about himself. Mostly he listens, prods, collects, but never offers. He learned young that when you’ve got a brain like he does you can’t afford to tell people what you’re thinking or how you really feel. Stu isn’t one of those people though, Stu has to keep his thoughts secret too and now this is theirs to keep, between them.
This is mostly only going to be in cannon with the first movie (the movie 3 retcon is not for me), but may also diverge in some places, especially when we get to the events closer to the end of the first movie. More specific tags and warnings will be in the end of chapter notes.Series

“The god has chosen-,” the shaman called out.
Pete hadn’t taken the time to think before he spoke. Everything moved in slow motion as he recalled everything that Porsche had ever done for him–with him–over the years. He would do anything for Porsche. After all, Porsche was all Pete had, and Chay still needed him. No one needed Pete.
“I volunteer as Lotus!” Pete had yelled, shoving Porsche aside as he protested.
Once the words were out, there was no taking them back.
The water god demanded a Lotus, a gift, every century, and Pete had no clue what that exactly entailed. He didn’t expect it would be good, from the way the elders especially reacted. It wasn’t that he wanted to die–far from it–but Pete hadn’t had to think long and hard when weighing his life against Porsche’s. Pete, if he remained in the village, would likely be broken in the brothel, or would grow ill far before he had his first gray hair. Life in a brothel could be cruel. At least this way he could imagine that Porsche ran away with his brother to live somewhere else. Pete wouldn’t have survived without Porsche, but he knew Porsche would survive without him.
