“It's just exploration, my guy. Everyone does it.” He says it casually, so serenely that Steve couldn’t find it in him to question. He had to admit he was curious about Tommy, but that’s as far as any of it went- curiosity and nothing more because he wasn’t gay. Right?
“Everyone?” Steve asked slowly. Now that the idea was given wings to fly the curiosity grew stronger.

Max felt like she was coasting, stagnant, stationary. A dreadful feeling of hopelessness had begun to settle over her. Her parents' attitude didn’t help either. They hounded her constantly about coming back to church, finding a nice man to marry, settling down so she could start popping out babies.
Then one afternoon, while she was holed up in her room rewatching Supernatural for what had to be the twentieth time while elbow deep in a family sized bag of chips, she got a call from one Steve Harrington.
“You wanna move to Washington?”
Max’s car was packed up and on the road the very next day.

Summary
As the bruising and swelling in his face went away, he was more than a little annoyed that his ear situation wasn't also clearing up. Sounds were muffled and sometimes he found it difficult to understand what people were saying to him. It made him feel weak. Useless. But he kept those thoughts to himself.
