Grillby stood in the remains of an abandoned lab, in flickering dying lighting, flames banishing the shadows that creeped in around him. Clearly, no one had been in this particular part of the labs for some time.
Grillby wakes up one day suddenly remembering an entire past life- a soulmate and a family that no one knew. And he is going to get him back. No matter what it takes.

It started, as it often did, over a glass of wine. Lucifer swirling the liquid in a glass, laughing at something Shadow was playing out across the wall. Shadow grinning away, enjoying the company, the peace that came the nights Alastor dropped it off at the King’s door with rolled eyes, a boost of power to keep it going, and a quick rap on the door.
Lucifer and Shadow share a night.

I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

“Rocky saw.”
His mind races. The what, the ship cams? Did they record Stratt’s men dumping him comatose and still and scared in the ship, did they talk about what they’d done to him? No, that would make sense. Besides, the Hail Mary was in orbit around Erid, not impossible to get to, but not worth it for a nose around. Or – maybe he’d said something in his sleep, and Rocky was only just talking to him about it. That also makes no sense. Or maybe –
“You… saw.”
“Eridians see dream-memories sometimes.”
“That literally makes no sense,” blurts Ryland, and Rocky stamps his feet. The way he’d done back on the ship when something was painfully obvious and Ryland failed to get it. “Sorry. You’re gonna have to explain.”
“Eridians are linked to all Eridians. Erid is like – word need word – database. Database for all Eridians thought memories events. When Eridians sleep, they see other Eridian memories. Didn’t happen on ship because no tie to Erid. Didn’t happen on Mary because no tie to Erid. Rocky saw Grace's memories.”

Or: Rocky finds out Grace was forced onto the Hail Mary without his consent, but not really in the way you'd expect.

Summary
This is an AU where Eva Stratt miscalculates and accidently causes Grace's memories to become jumbled and way more difficult to access. He does the Hail Mary mission begrudgingly and has absolutely NO intention of going back to earth. The place kinda fucked him over, after all. Now he's a teacher in space... but with the arrival of a very manmade submarine in Erid's orbit comes a new companion and along with him a mystery that may or may not be directly linked to the spread of astrophage throughout multiple universes.
