Summary
“Will, can I ask you something?” Mike speaks up, more assured this time. “Yes,” Will replies softly, waiting. There's only the sound of silence for a long moment.
“Do you remember the painting that you gave to me last year?” He finally asks and Will's heart drops into his stomach instantly. Sitting up straight, he turns to face Mike who stares at him with furrowed eyebrows, his lips pressed into a thin, contemplating line. “The one you gave me in the van when we were looking for El?”Will nods. “Yes, I remember.” Mike swallows, turning so he’s facing him straight on. “I was just thinking. Thinking about what you said and about, well about everything and I just need to know for sure if, if—” he stops there, biting at his cheek. His eyes don't leave Wills, not once.
“If what?” Will asks and he feels terrified, that day rushing back to him like an uncontrollable wave of burning hot water. Lies, misunderstood words, false confessions. Mike’s lips part ever so slightly and then they close, his eyes flickering back and forth between Wills, searching for something he doesn't fully understand. “If what you told me was the truth,” he finally asks, his words a whisper in the darkness of the basement. The truth.

Summary
Will Byers had been intentionally avoiding Mike, he just knew it. He never answered his calls, and had be ignoring him the entirety of their reunion has a party in New York, where Will lived and was attending college. As they go out bar hopping two nights before their trip ends, Will ends up absolutely wasted, Mike needing to take him home, and a massive, tension filled confession shared between the two that morning.
OR
Will gets absolutely wasted while bar hopping with the party, Mike taking him back to his apartment that night, and the two professing their love to each other in the morning after sharing a bed with each other.

“How long are you in town for?”
He sighed, a bit dramatically. “Well, technically for a few days. But my mom doesn’t have any room for me, so I dunno where I’m gonna actually stay. I don’t really have the money for a hotel or anything, so I’m probably just going to sleep in my car and just stay another night.”
Will fiddled with his shirt sleeve, the same way he did as a kid when trying to make a decision about something. “You… can stay with me, if you want."
OR: 5 years after graduating, Mike realizes Will was talking about having feelings for him, all those years ago. Now, he is visiting Hawkins and runs into Will. Who just so happens to have a spare room Mike can stay in. Mike is whipped, but is certain Will lost feelings years ago. Or did he?
