The comment cut through his haze. Sure enough, she was already looking at him, her eyes cool and assessing. She wore that unreadable look—a familiar mask she donned with ease. He understood the state he was in—hell, he didn’t doubt a family of raccoons probably looked far more put-together than he did at the moment. Pulled into her orbit once again, he couldn’t help imagine there was an echo of concern hidden in her remark. It was almost laughable the way he couldn’t control the upturn of his lips.
“I guess that doesn’t help with my generic looks, now does it?”
