Summary
"To remind the Capitol that their nefarious deeds will never be forgotten, twenty-four children are reaped from their families to participate in a Battle Royale. Unlike its predecessor, the tributes are chosen at random despite their age, sex, and societal status."
The voice chuckled over the last line, as if disbelieving any of the kids from the Capitol were beyond poorer than the high middle-class citizens.
"Of course, tributes who refuse to participate within the rules of the game will have their shock collars activated.
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the first ever Royale Capitol Games, with it also being the Fourth Quarter Quell from the discontinued series of the Hunger Games."
The announcer laughs, unaware of the sheer number of Capitol parents who have fainted from the live announcement. They were giddy for a while at having to recite the dreaded line, along with a sickening twist added by the end.
"And may the odds ever grant you their favors."
(In where the Symbolic Hunger Games happened much later in the future, and the Games aren't exactly what everyone expects)

Summary
For a second, she was back there, standing in front of a ghostly thin sheet covering a pale, putrefying figure. The grody smell would have made anyone turn away, or simply the sight of the deceased all neatly lined to a row would be enough.
Denial gripped her implacably no matter how hard her senses were pointing out the obvious.
Her daughter did not belong there.
Alma proceeds to hold Phillyeus more tightly on instinct.
“It’s just a fever,” Plutarch’s voice softly drifts by her ear, meaning to console her. “He will be fine by tomorrow. You’re worrying over nothing.”
Her misty perception barely clears when his lips peck her by the temple.
(In which Alma and Plutarch's kid is sick, and memories from a dreadful outbreak from District 13 comes back to haunt them)

Paylor let her eyes drift to the ex-head gamemaker who stood silently from the corner of the room. Plutarch Heavensbee watched as everything had been set to his liking.
Paylor had heard rumors.
And as far as rumors go, she particularly didn't like this one.

Summary
Beyond the odium murmurs of disapproval and petty looks, Plutarch waits for the footsteps of his friend to fade away and welcomes Alma's advances, easily melting in her arms. He quickly latches to her figure, petrified, desperate hands venturing themselves to grip the clothes of her back, and from there, he holds on for dear life, face tucked in her chest and just attempting to breathe more properly.
“Your strategy against the bombing was smart,” his voice ended up muffled by the contact of her unembellished uniform. He minds a bit that the clothing was in his way. “...I think I failed to provide a commentary on that.”
“You didn’t so much as fail when you’ve made it abundantly clear that you were against it,” Alma corrects him matter-of-factly. She kisses his hair and traces the length of his spine, making him shudder in her arms. "I do not like getting this worked up, Heavensbee."
“I appreciate what you’re doing for me. Really.” Plutarch croaks near her jugular, lips ghosting to kiss her there.
(Where the aftermath of the bombing leaves Plutarch shaken, and Coin - despite her best efforts, can't exactly provide a permanent fix to something psychological)

"You have two assassination scars now…" Plutarch's voice was forlorn and heavy with regret. "An arrow and a bullet."
"Yes, and I'm eager to know what else could pierce me in the future," Alma replies with a loose tongue, curling a leg to drape over his hips. "Mind my manners, love...but this is simply what you get when you interrupt someone who’s direly needing sleep."
The protests in his lips die more quickly than her mundane wish for a nap. “I don’t know if it’s really you or the medicine that made you start calling me that…” he navigates to kiss her on the corner of her lips, tenderly pecking her cheek along the way. “Either way, I don’t wish for you to be this narcotized just to be affectionate with me.”
“Stop dramatically overstating things, Heavensbee. I’m not that narcotized,” Alma retaliates but then purrs over his sprinkling kisses.

There was a long pause that extended far too long for comfort.
“It was actually my inquisitive husband who thought it was best to answer Heavensbee's persistent ghost transmissions," Coin snappily brought up, craning back her head as she thirstily drank the whole wine without pausing to breathe. She peeked through one eye and saw Plutarch leading Fulvia to a slow whirl across the smooth concrete floor. The visible smile on his face magnified the burn down her throat.
Gale Hawthorne blinked morbidly in disbelief, his ashen pupils shrinking in tandem with his ajar mouth just as she finished her entire glass in one go.
“Excuse me, Madame President,” her head throbbed at the timing of another simpleton asking her for a dance. “I was wondering if you would like to—”
“Leave me alone.”

Summary
Plutarch sucked in a breath just when the similarities of a past memory became in tandem with whatever Coin’s vigorous exercise was about. It felt like he was back in the training center observing the Quarter Quell tributes preparing for the 75th Hunger Games, except that her customized athletic wear — with the number 13 emblazoned in the location of her left breast — was far superior to any of the former participants' old uniforms.
“I know you can already picture it…you’ve seen the clothes,” Effie whispered to his blushing ear. “The best thing about it is you don’t even get to slaughter children this time!”
His transient nerves finally left him as he straightened his back, pocketing his hands and addressing her with his former air of superiority as Head Gamemaker.
“District 13…”
Coin was startled at once, staring back at him in question.
Plutarch only smiled, hiding away his real emotions as he prepared to get into character.
"You have fifteen minutes to present to me your chosen skill."

“¿Qué eso haciendo?”
Kitty murmured nervously, black fur hackling straight.
Puss wanted to reassure her that there was nothing to worry about. He wasn’t in pain or anything, but even their precious and gullible Perrito was backing away in obvious fright, which definitely scared him. It was rather odd how quickly his instincts were driven away by the quiet entity that stuck to his boots and cape.
“Guys, relax! I…think it’s harmless? ” Puss says, trying to shrug it off.
Both Kitty and Perrito share an uncertain look.
“I…I don’t know, Puss. I feel like it has a bad vibe.” The fact that this was coming from Perrito of all people should have alarmed the orange feline, but it was as if his senses didn’t want to listen.
Didn’t want to think of it as a danger.***
Death, on the other hand, has had enough.
Not only was he smacked in the face by a miraculous 10th life, but that darn cat has somehow attached his paws to an entity that can revive him whenever he pleases.
Perhaps the feline was a favorite of the universe or something, and Death simply couldn’t do anything about it.
Yeah, right. As if that would stop him from messing with the cat even further.

"And when they are reluctant?" there was an edge to his voice as he gingerly whispered into her ear. "Would I be pushed to stain my soul again to make them cooperate into killing each other faster?"
"...yes," Coin replied darkly, leaning eagerly to feel his lips on her skin. "I would have no else but you as head gamemaker."
Plutarch grunted and pushed all the way in with no warning.
Takes two months after Grueling and Bitter work where Coin almost relapses into corruption again and Plutarch is there for her all the way.
