She rarely wears it so openly that Jean is willing to do anything to keep happiness on her face, that Jean takes her bright eyes and upturned lips as the only way he can intake the topic before them, “have feelings for anyone before me?”
No, he wants to say but it wouldn’t be honest - honesty damned; for a moment, he wonders if he’s stepping into a trap. Mikasa doesn’t care for them though, a thing that spells out rather well for him, and his partner, much like himself, has a blunt side so dull that he’s surprised she cannot wield that like the ODM swords.
Mikasa doesn’t care for the manipulations or set-pieces in the way someone like Armin plays the game; if Mikasa is upset or aggravated by him in any way, he would know swiftly and brutally.
Instead, she seems mostly curious.

Spotting his partner in crime and best friend slumped in the corner, he approaches the wallflower, "Hell are you doing over here, Bertholdt?!?"
"Much less than you are," he whispers into his cup and while he had caught a glimpse of the liquid inside enough to assume that it was the vodka-teamed punch, he would also know Bertholdt is intoxicated by the lavish tone of his voice. He sounds too smug for their usual shy friend.
