The silence in person was even heavier than it had been over the phone. Matt felt as if Mello would vanish in a puff of smoke if he reached out to touch them. This was all some elaborate magic trick with an inevitable prestige.
“Decided to come around in time for the holidays, huh.”
They scoffed, a hard exhale pushed through their front teeth, and it was familiar — the same way coming home after a long time was familiar. Things changed, furniture moved around, but the foundations stayed the same.
(Or: the one that got a rewrite a decade later.)

Summary
“I thought you liked my armor,” Sylvain jokes, eyes fixated on the way Felix’s cheeks are dusted the faintest shade of pink.
“You look half decent in it,” Felix says with a wry smile. “More importantly, it keeps you alive.”
Felix deftly unties the final string keeping Sylvain’s breastplate in place, and Sylvain feels it loosen as Felix hooks his fingers around the protective gear and sets it down by the side of the bed with a muted thump.
“But,” Felix says, turning back to carefully unfasten Sylvain’s doublet and remove his undershirt, “it certainly gets in the way of this.”
Sylvain’s eyes widen as Felix surges forward, straddling Sylvain’s thighs and pushing him back onto the bed in one fluid movement.
Or: Sylvain and Felix finally get some much-needed alone time.
