Buck decides he does not like the new guy.
He’s Buck’s age. He’s, objectively, a good-looking guy. Buck can’t deny that, no matter how much he wants to. He’s served in the army. He has a silver star. Buck doesn’t have a silver star, that’s obvious. Eddie’s strong and muscled. He has a chance of winning this month’s calendar. How is Buck ever going to be better than Eddie in one aspect, let alone everything?
So, he decides he doesn’t like Eddie.
OR: When Eddie joins the 118, Buck is jealous, although he won’t admit it. Hell, he doesn’t even know he is jealous.

If he sits in the second one, something bad will happen. Everyone will die. The house will explode. You can warn him. He has to sit in the first one or the third one. If not, everyone you love will die and it will all be your fault.
Ilya moved to sit in the second chair. Shane bristled, hands trembling.
“Don’t.” Shane snapped. Ilya froze, glancing at Shane with a concerned and confused expression. Shane inhaled, then exhaled. Guilt crawled up his throat. He was being fucking insane.
Still though, what if he wasn’t being insane? What if there was a 0.1% something bad would happen to Ilya?

Shane swallows the lump in his throat. “We need your help.”
Yuna sounds slightly concerned, her voice tinny through the phone. “Is everything alright? Should we drive over?”
“Yeah, um—we have a, uh. A—”
“A baby,” Ilya finishes. “You are a grandmother now. Surprise.”
“Sorry, did you—” Yuna pauses. They can hear David faintly in the background. “You mean, like, a baby animal? A puppy?”
“A wishbaby,” Shane croaks. There’s silence on the other end of the line.
“Surprise,” Ilya says again.
Shane and Ilya win the Stanley Cup. They weren't exactly planning to also win a baby.
