Summary
Before living with his father, Damian is taught to avoid meeting his soulmate. He's taught that meeting his soulmate will be his downfall, that whatever alpha he's destined to will take away all his freedoms and use him as nothing but a womb to fill. So Damian goes through life avoiding the touch of others, not wanting to take any chances in meeting his mate.
When Damian moves in with his father, he slowly starts letting his guard down in the face of so much casual contact among his new family. And everything seems to go fine, until Damian touches Richard for the first time during a spar. It's then that Damian has some sudden realizations about just what he was taught growing up and how he feels about it all.

Richard’s praises are not sparing. They’re not doled out in piecemeal rations as his father’s are.
His praise is a feast, given freely to those who would partake. Each good job and amazing soaks into Damian’s flesh and buries itself a home in between the curves of his rib cage.
He admires Richard for his skill, for his talents and kindness. For his brutality when pushed against the wall. He admires his beauty and how much an honor it is to transcribe it to paper in whatever medium he can get his hands on. He likes the spark of mischief that lights behind his eyes right before telling another asinine joke. Sometimes, Damian doesn’t even mind the jokes.
Sometimes, he wishes he were allowed to be more forthcoming. But his own words stick, tacky as tree sap at the back of his throat.

Jesper huffed. “I don’t want to ruin it,” he said, trying to will himself not to start crying.
After what felt like a million years of agonizing gift-unwrapping, Jesper revealed the box that was hiding under the wrapping paper; the box fell open, and what was left was…a short first-kiss fic :) enjoy!
