Of all the things Viktor thought would kill him, it somehow makes sense that the one currently winning out is his own stubbornness.
He's grown very familiar with the limits of his own existence. Precisely how far he can walk, with or without his brace, his cane. On a good day, on a bad one. How long he can sit in one position before his back begins to protest and how long he can ignore it before it becomes nonnegotiable. With proper support. With none.
Most recently, how much time he can spend in the presence of one Jayce Talis before the urge to cough becomes too much to ignore.

He is a monstrosity now. A hollow thing, metal and magic, his pulse a ticking rhythm of desire that he cannot justify and does not trust. He does not know what Jayce was thinking when he bound Viktor to this thing, and he does not care to.
He was supposed to die.
And he will.
All of Hextech's mistakes, destroyed at once. The weapons blueprints. The Hexcore. Viktor himself. A shock of pain arcs through him so sharply that his body bows with it, a groan grinding out of his metal throat, and it melts into a bitter laugh in his mouth.
Let the Hexcore hurt him.
Let it do its worst, with what little time it has left.

Summary

Where Jayce initially survives the Memorial attack in one universe, he is not so lucky in another. A secret alliance brokered by a grief-stricken mother and a mother-wolf leads to his disappearance amidst the chaos, fire, and blood.
A year after Jayce’s disappearance, and during a confrontation with Jinx, Caitlyn and Vi come face to face with the Undercity’s newest threat, an invulnerable weapon known as The Shimmer Soldier. Upon unmasking the man, Caitlyn catches a momentary glimpse of his true identity through the split second flash of honey-hazel eyes.
From there, they are plunged into a race against time, as The Shimmer Soldier and those controlling him set their sights on Viktor’s peaceful Undercity commune.

"Ah," the stranger hums. “I see. This timeline is quite different from the others. No looming threat of the Arcane unravelling the world. No great cataclysm. Though it seems that peace came at the expense of… our relationship.”
“What the—," Jayce grits out, still clutching at the floor for balance. "What the hell— are you talking about?”
The old man looks at him, a fond smile spreading across his face.
"So much regret," he murmurs. "So much love buried under guilt. You hide it well, but not from me. Never from me.”
Jayce opens his mouth to protest, but the older man kneels down, hands rising to cradle his face.
Jayce must still be intoxicated. This isn’t his partner— can’t be. He doesn’t even know what kind of creature is wearing Viktor’s face. And yet, he leans into the touch involuntarily, eyes fluttering shut as he gives in to the warmth he’s imagined for so long.
“Do not fret,” the man says softly. “I can fix that."

"I know." He hesitates for a beat. "It's been five years, Jayce. Maybe you could... write to her."--
Jayce tries to reconnect with his mother, five years after the events that led her and the rest of Runeterra to believe he'd died saving the world from the Machine Herald.

“What do you want?”
It surprises Viktor when the question comes out of his own mouth. Jayce looks over to him, not sure if he’s actually being spoken to, but Viktor’s openly staring at him. He has been, unashamedly, for the last few minutes, but the Golden Boy is already trying to get smashed not even half-an-hour into his own party so sue him if he’s anything less than gawking.
“A glass of milk.”
What?
“I’m sorry?”
“Milk.”
“Milk?”
Jayce nods, as if it’s the most simple ask in the world.
Viktor huffs a laugh before he can even catch himself, the edge of his lip quirking up while his teeth are on full display. He flags down the bartender, “Two milks. Make mine a little sweet.”
“Sure, you want a syrup or…?”
Viktor looks over at Jayce, who’s now the one unabashedly staring at him, his posture straightened like before, but with a little bit of a tilt.
Viktor smiles. “Butterscotch.”
