Summary
Being an S-Class pilot is something Wolfwood is good at. The skill comes to him as easy as he imagines breathing is for other people. He fights, he destroys, he protects and when everything is done, he's disconnected from KNI and reminded that he is a shape filled with meat and blood instead of steel and electricity.
It's a struggle to be a person. He has his brother's and his friends, but Wolfwood feels like he's left behind pieces of himself with KNI every time he's separated from the mech.
Wolfwood knows he is safe with KNI - as a part of KNI.

"Vash," Nai started. The keys were a blur under his fingers. When had he blinked last? He didn't dare. Vash's approving palm came to rest on his thigh, and stray droplets of whiskey soaked into his pants. The glass was in Vash’s other hand now - Nai watched him take a sip out of the corner of his eye. Could he stop playing? "What," he tried, had to stop to lick his dry lips before continuing, "What are you doing here?"
Vash laughed. It was an open and honest sound, so sweetly charming that his heart throbbed in the hollow of his ribcage."Nai," he said, drawing it out into a playful drawl. He squeezed Nai's thigh. "I need a reason to visit my big brother?"
Knives has never known how to handle his brother. 150 years in, that hasn't changed.

But Vash doesn’t care, doesn’t care about anything at all in this moment except for this moment- Knives pushing at his dark hair, scowling down at Vash, the little annoyed hiss he makes when Vash hooks his hands behind his thighs and bullies him closer. “Kiss me,” Vash demands, tipping his head up.

Nai feels his face flush, the blood under his skin undoubtedly showing easily under his pale color. The other two must feel him stiffen, muscles locking up in familiar tension, because they both pause. Vash kisses his cheek and murmurs, “Nai, you always pamper me. Now it’s your turn. Relax.” His hand joins Nicholas' in his underwear, fingers teasing his heated skin.

“Would you be mad if I wasn’t?”
Nai didn’t say anything. He only shut his eyes and tried not to let the hurt sink in too deep, into all those Vash shaped holes. Let them remain empty. A grave was a better remembrance for him than the ugly reality.

Knives’s hair is short, prickly—but so pale that when he moves his head and the light hits it just so, it looks almost translucent. When he was younger—in those eighty years they spent together, keeping only each other’s company—Vash had thought it made his brother look like he wasn’t made of anything mortal. Like he wasn’t made of dust and dirt, not like everyone else.
