As a father, Sir Frederick had much to admire in his firstborn, Charles, who had inherited his own marvellous figure and proud brow topped with a luscious crop of hair. He’d married well into a family of the neighbourhood, one second only in prestige to their own. His youngest child, his prized only daughter, Abigail, was the picture of her poor dear departed mother and would make a good marriage too, with her fine eyes and excellent disposition, when Sir Frederick decided the time was right.
The one inferior and disappointing siring Sir Frederick had to contend with was William. Petulant, with hair that never sat to any elegance, eyes that flashed too much spirit and a propensity to that most unsightly blight, freckles.

Summary
