“Ran,” Shinichi whispers, staring up at the ceiling.
From next to him, she tightens her hold around his waist, head resting on his chest. “What’s wrong?”
“You ever think that our- they're just kids. They deserved better.” He knows that she knows who he is referring to. He just wants them to be safe, that’s all he has ever wanted – his friends and family to be safe.
Ran shifts, burying her face into the space between his good shoulder and neck. “You did what you could, Shinichi."
“I am always doing a headcount. I can never remember how many people I’m supposed to have, so I just keep counting. I don’t want to miss anyone,” he sighs. “I just want it to stop hurting.”

Shinichi comes back from his case, trauma and a bullet wound as souvenirs, and he does his best to rebuild his life after it had all fallen apart.

So caught up in her stress that was her day, she doesn’t expect the empty room to talk to her. “Um... can I help you?”
Mouri Ran lets out an ear-splitting screech.
Eyes flying open, she grabs the nearest object (the folded umbrella still in her hand) and yeets it across the room to the source of the voice.
“Ow! What the fuck? ” the man shouts (oh god, that is a man in the room).
Heart pounding in her throat, she stares, horrified, “H-How what? How did you get in here?”
“Through the door? How else would I get in here-” he groans, massaging his nose. “What the actual fuck?”

Or, Mouri Ran accidentally barges into an occupied music room. Too bad it's the only room that has the piano she desperately needs to practice on for her upcoming recital.

Summary
“Okie-dokes.” Kuroba shakes himself, and then turns to wave at the waiting group of suspects and witnesses with a reassuring smile. They stare blankly at him.
“They’re traumatized, Kaito-san.”
“I know. That’s why I’m being nice.”
Shinichi grabs Kuroba’s jacket and starts yanking him toward the group, ignoring his annoyed muttering. In Kuroba’s defense, he’s very good at looking reassuring. It’s just a lot less effective when he’s standing next to the corpse.

When a magician seemingly murders an audience member in the middle of a show, no one but Conan can even begin to figure out all the tricks of this case. Naturally, Megure talks to Nakamori, who recommends the one and only magic expert that he knows: Kuroba Kaito.
