Summary
“Could you please relax, I know how to drive in a city,” Cas lies, and Dean keeps his eyes closed so he doesn’t have to see Cas get his baby into a fender-bender.
At least until Cas starts singing along to the radio under his breath, and then Dean can’t help but stare at him, late summer sunshine dancing across his face as he dutifully keeps his hands textbook-9-and-3-o’clock positions on the steering wheel and stomps way too friggin hard on the breaks.
Cas tilts his head and gives him a questioning look, so Dean grunts, “Eyes on the road, dumbass,” and tries to only watch Cas surreptitiously through the corner of his eye. An angel of the dickhead-previous-lord, untethered and fully mortal, back from the dead and happily playing chauffeur for him, and all Dean can do is bark at him. Literally there’s no reason for Cas to still be sticking around, but fuck it, here the guy is.

Dean Winchester never wanted to wear a crown. He had no idea that he even could. It wasn't until the Campbell royals all got themselves assassinated by demons that he and Sam found out that King Samuel was actually their grandfather, and well, shit.
But Dean was a soldier before he was anything else. So maybe that's why he'll do anything to stop this awful demon war—anything. Even try to make an alliance with the angels.
They think they're gonna scare him off by telling him he's gotta be magically married—okay, okay, handfasted, but call it what it is—to some snooty noble angel for a whole year? They think Dean's gonna back out because the angels want him to be handfasted not to a proper princess, oh no, but to a prince?

“He’s alive,” he said. He cupped Dean’s face. It would all be alright. He’d heal him, and this nightmare would be over. They could go home, and Castiel would have a chance to fully appreciate the fact that for whatever reason, he was back. Dean would crack an obscene joke about getting nailed, refuse Sam’s admonishments to take some time off from hunting, and life would resume.
“He—What?” Sam didn’t sound hopeful, or excited. Rather, it was as if Castiel had spoken a foreign language.

Summary

Castiel blinks and glances at his daughter. He’d assume that would be obvious, since she's still wearing her current favorite—a yellow-gold sixteen-gauge curved bar, with tiny cone-shaped spikes on either end. “Yes?” he finally answers. What a lot of fuss about a tiny piercing.
“Well, so what if she wanted a tattoo?” Emma presses. “Like. Just a little one. You wouldn’t have her sneak around and go to some scratcher, would you? You’d take her yourself and stuff. Since you know people in the industry. That'd be the right thing to do, yeah?”
Castiel’s eyebrows rise. Claire smiles, smug and pleased with herself.
“Um. That’s… I don’t…” he flounders.
“What the hell. Kiddo, I told you ‘no,’ so now you’re tryin’ to get your friends’ parents to tell you 'Yes?'” a warm, deep voice growls over Castiel’s shoulder. “What’s the matter with you?”

Summary
On their way home from a hunt in the deep south, Dean and Castiel lose track of time and space. The Impala, exhausted but still fully functioning, breaks down ten minutes from the town of White Ridge; it’s a part of Tennessee that Dean swears he’s visited, but he can’t find the memories to back it up.
The longer they wait for repairs, the more the town wears on the two of them, and its true nature comes to life in the wake of a murder in broad daylight, dredging up memories and experiences Dean thought he left behind over twenty years ago.
Survival seems fleeting–and desperately, he hopes he can save himself and Castiel, just one last time.

He’d missed Cas, missed his dry wit, the annoyed growling sounds he made in the back of his throat; he missed the full-body eye rolls and the bird's nest hair and the comfortable silences. So they live together and it’s the only together they have right now, doomed to orbit each other, sometimes collide, but not in any pleasant way (like before), and then be pushed apart again. It’s tricky and full of sharp edges but the alternative is worse. Maybe, Dean tries not to think about it.

After Dean leaves him at the Gas N' Sip in Rexford, Castiel realises that he needs to get back in the game. However, that's easier said than done, and instead he finds himself working in a Target-style superstore in Boulder as he tries to figure out his new human life. He makes friends, starts hunting, even has a couple of hook-ups, but when Dean unexpectedly returns, Castiel has to re-evaluate where Dean fits in to this new life he has built for himself, and what it is they need from each other.
And while Castiel may have had his grace stripped from him, he still possesses certain angelic sensibilities that may be the key to fixing some of the damage Metatron has wrought. With some creativity, teamwork, and a dash of hope, maybe he can discover just how much he's really capable of.
