A brick promptly fell on the thug’s head. The thug crumpled. The young civilian promptly fell unconscious from shock. “You alright, kid?”
Well, that was one less problem.

“Hey, you could’ve checkmated me! You know, taking all my pieces to prolong my suffering is just rude.”
Deer blinked. “What’s the fun in that?”

Sixteen-year-old "Hawks" took one look at the man who saved him from a lucky villain and decided spending time with the man would be fun. A citizen who treated him like a normal person, who didn't care about the HPSC or the hero world. Shikamaru Nara had been called many things: "lazy," "rude," "well-meaning," "draconic," "a good father," and "not the worst Kage ever but also Yagura exists." In two lifetimes, though, "fun" never described him.
Veteran shinobi "Deer" took one look at mentorless Hawks and decided to try the Nara special (or shogi as a father-son/teacher-student bonding experience).
