    Summary

unexpected figures take advantage when Aidan falls asleep naked after a shower--and it turns out to be the best mistake of his life.

    [-x-]

“What’s this?” A fingertip brushes through one of the globs of drool still drying on his inner thighs. “What have you been up to, sweetheart?”

Aidan doesn’t shiver. Doesn’t move. His eyelashes barely even flutter.

Then another weight settles on the mattress, and his dog’s tongue is cleaning up any and all fluid smeared around his center, twisting like the most luxurious ribbon between his walls.

    He moans, openly.

Oh,” she coos. “So it’s like that.”

    Summary

Richard Papen hates studying to be a doctor. He wishes he were doing something else with his time, something beautiful or terrible, anything to relieve the monotony of slowly throwing away a good career that he is not good enough for.

He finds himself in a low-budget exhibition about the moon landing, where a tall man sits down next to him and asks if man walking on the moon is something everyone else knew about. The tall man with the square jaw in the dark coat has a bruise on his neck and something on his mind he isn't saying, but he wants to interrogate someone about Homer and he needs someone to make him feel clever. Richard can do that. He has nothing else on.

    Summary

He's tired of being afraid. Afraid that the next time his phone rings he’ll get the news someone else is dead, dying, and all the same he’s afraid of not getting that call. Because if he doesn’t, then he just doesn’t know. If they’re dead, alive, if his friends are okay or sick or lonely or if they miss him--

Mark’s over being tired, being afraid, being unable to think past the fog in his brain.

    Summary

“Mark?” Roger called through their apartment as he scoured their kitchen for food. He wrinkled his nose at a suspiciously old looking carton of Pad Thai, and threw it out.

“In here!” Mark called from his room.

Roger wandered over, peeking his head in the door. “Hey, hey, hey.”

“Morning, sunshine.” Mark was pouring over his latest script, cigarette hanging from his lips- this time he was writing a real film, he claimed, not a documentary. “It’s,” Mark checked his watch, “just past noon. That’s pretty darn early for you," he teased, eyes sparkling as he fixed his glasses.

Roger shook his head with a laugh. “You don’t sleep, Mark.” This was true- Mark had what he himself had dubbed selective-insomnia, only sleeping when he absolutely needed to. Somehow he stayed impossibly energetic. “You wouldn’t get it, sleep is my only pastime.” Roger joked, glancing back at the kitchen. “We don’t have food.”

“We have cigarettes,” Mark swiveled in his chair and held his half-smoked one out to Roger with a grin.

    “Okay, smart-ass.”

    Summary

Everyone knows the dark story behind the haunted Refuge Juvenile Prison, the fire set by an inmate that killed so many. The ghost-hunting team of Beyond Belief only think about how it'll make the perfect season finale episode. David Jacobs doesn't believe in the supernatural, but his role as team skeptic is tested when he makes a strange connection with a ghost inside Refuge; the ghost of a young boy named Jack that seems intent on telling him something.

The reality of what happened at the Refuge is so much darker than what appeared in the newspapers, and David chases glimpses of the past through his connection to the ghost. As the team gets dragged further and further into the mystery behind the haunted juvenile prison, the story only gets more dangerous. Soon enough, it's lives at stake in the race to discover the truth.

Can David find out what really happened Halloween night of 1899 before the Refuge claims their lives as well?
