Jon and Martin go to a Ceilidh, and experience some of the perks of living in Scotland
“A ceilidh,” said Martin with a grin. “That’d be fun, right?”
“A ceilidh?” echoed Jon.
“It’s a dance,” said Martin, slipping his phone back into his pocket. “Scottish dancing – you know, with the spinning, and bagpipes and fiddles.”
Jon wrinkled his brow. “I know what a ceilidh is, Martin. I just – why did you take a photo?”
“To show you,” he said simply. “It’d be fun. C’mon, Jon – we can’t stay holed up in the cottage forever.”
“We should’ve,” muttered Jon. “Bloody freezing out here.”

Jonathan Sims is rather tired of being kidnapped but Martin Blackwood, a fully-realized Avatar of The Lonely, is a better host that most. True, he's an empty, washed-out version of a human, but piece by piece Jon manages to unearth someone worth knowing behind the isolation and the distance.
Of course, there's the questions of why Martin kidnapped him in the first place, what The Lonely wants with The Archivist (or with The Archivist out of the way), why Elias Bouchard and Peter Lukas still seem to be working together despite that, and what The Web has to do with. Well. Everything.
Other than that, though, Jon is as interested in Martin himself as he is in everything surrounding him. Which include the end of the world. A world that Jon's not completely convinced shouldn't end.

Martin hadn’t said Jon’s name in three days.
To be fair, he hadn’t said much of anything else, either. Adjusting to life in the actual world was slow going, but Jon… Jon was patient.
Martin sighed a foggy breath, thankful that this time it was due to the early morning chill, and not the constant mist of the Lonely. The mug of tea was warm in his hands, and dew glistened on the grass, catching the first few rays of sunlight.
There really was no better place to recover.
Or: Martin can't say Jon's name anymore.
