It seemed no one wanted to go to sleepy, slow suburbia, where it was a given to know the name of at least all the people on your block, the cashiers knew you on a first name basis, and people were careful not to mow their lawns before 10:00 am on Sundays because they knew the elderly couple down the street was sleeping in.
Good. It was his home, not theirs.

But he was in so much pain—up his left side, his chest and upper back, his neck. The only time he was pain-free was when he was deep in the mire of his subconscious, where he could be twelve years old again, cancer such a foreign concept that he didn’t even really know what it was.
