    There was something unimpressed with his gaze. It made Elizabeth’s skin itch. Percy Jackson was known as the hero. He had saved Olympus not once but twice and here he was staring at her like she was just a speck of dirt.

    “No lecture?” She dryly asked.

    He raised an eyebrow at that. (He hadn’t shoved his hand his pocket. He didn’t see her as a threat.)

    “I don’t think talking about empathy is going to help.”

    Elizabeth shot him a look. Her mouth twisted because she knew he was being honest. “So you’re just going to stand there speechless? I thought you were-“

    He interrupted her. His voice wasn’t loud from anger despite what Elizabeth had done. “The monster was trying to kill you. You don’t need to be lectured about killing him.”

    “A monster?” His answer wasn’t true; she had seen the look on his face. Elizabeth knew he was disturbed just like-

    “You were told to save yourself," Chiron said. "That’s what the voice in your dream said. So, it could be possible that the voice meant your younger self.”
    Now it was Percy’s turn to recalibrate. “Wait, so I’m here to protect me? Other me, I mean? But that would mean the kidnapping voice was trying to help me?”
    “It appears that is a distinct possibility. Otherwise, why else would you be sent back in time with those instructions?”
    Percy groaned and dropped his face in his hands. “Which means something else also probably went back in time to kill young me because again. Why else would I be here? Di immortales, I would love to not be kidnapped for the greater good anymore.”

    Percy Jackson is sent back in time with the instructions Save yourself . He's not sure what time travel rules are in play, but he's doing his best not to mess everything up while he looks out for his younger self. Only thing is... the monsters might not actually be targeting him. But why else would he be told to save himself?

    Arms crossed and body unsettled, Nico asked, “Did we reach the end of feelings time?”
    Percy let out a puff of air. “Almost. I just need you to know… I had someone I looked up to, too, you know? He went on a quest, which was unheard of back then. He was an unreal fighter and made me feel welcome and safe more than anyone else had. He was my friend and he made camp feel like home. And at the end of the summer he tried to kill me and spent the next few years trying to do it again, over and over. Not to mention the whole raising Kronos thing.”
    Luke. Nico had heard whisperings about who the traitor demigod had been before he’d left camp, but the stories tended to focus on Annabeth’s relationship with him, Percy caught in the middle of some fucked up triangle. Nico hadn’t really thought about Percy’s relationship to Luke independent of Annabeth. “Why are you telling me this?”
    “Because a lot of times the people we look up to are fucked up,” Percy said, hands up. “They let us down.”

    Nico thinks he's too damaged to be the next Camp leader. To help his friend, Percy decides to stop hiding his own damage. The two finally hash out their feelings and bond via trauma dumping.
