Diplomatic Complications by Sixthlight - 14,4K; Old Guard
Summary: There can be no misinterpretation or confusion on Yusuf’s part when what Duke Nicolò says is “But I didn’t want a husband, what does my brother think he’s doing?”
Reaction: Arranged marriages may be common in wealthy families -- but when the groom doesn't know a marriage has been arranged, and certainly doesn't want one, it throws a wrench in the works. Nicolò rejects the idea of marriage, and Yusuf can only accept that -- but everyone around them really, really want the two men to be married. Yusuf doesn't know how to do the seduction that Nile suggests, but a friendship slowly grows between them, and then more, which leads to a thoroughly satisfying ending.

A Fine Arrangement, by Sharkie - 24,6K; Old Guard
Summary: Genoa managed to destroy Tunisia's navy, leaving the royal family to sue for peace. A treaty was struck, and Yusuf was offered in marriage to the King of Genoa's second child, the Princess Veneranda. At least, that was the plan.
Reaction: Yusuf has no choice but to make a political marriage to bring peace between Genoa and Tunisia... but when the bride-to-be runs away with her lover, Nicolò it forced to become the substitute marriage partner. Yusuf and Nicolò find they are well-pleased by these developments... until they learn that Nicolò's father and brother have decided to hold Nicolò's mother for ransom. Throw in escape under cover of night, each enjoying copious amounts of married sex, a touch of palace intrigue as Nicolò doesn't know if his family's actions will reflect on his position, and we have a thoroughly enjoyable story.

A Convenient Arrangement by TrekCat - 31,5K; Harry Potter
Summary: Lady Hermione Granger needs to get married in order to secure her inheritance and everybody agrees that the best candidate to help her is the Earl of Gryffindor, Defeater of the Dark Lord Voldemort, Harry Potter.
There's just one problem: they're not friends and Hermione may have once told him, thanks to some meddling Weasleys, that she'd never get involved with him.
Reaction: Excellent story. AU - Hermione never cared much for Harry, but when she's required to marry, he's the logical choice. I love how they discuss it like adults, reach a mutual agreement, and then find themselves gradually falling for each other. And all of this adult attraction goodness is nicely interwoven with an intriguing mystery. It's a well-told story with a thoroughly satisfying ending.

Summary: Sometimes, if they're lucky, they get to see the best of humanity shine when the worst rears its ugly head.
Reaction: When Joe dies in public, he has to take a chance that the kind stranger will keep his secret. She does but, unfortunately, his death was NOT accidental, and things go downhill from there.
This is absolutely beautiful; the way the author showed the loving connection between Nicky and Joe is superb, and I love that they found someone to roll with the punches and help them as much as possible; Annette is the kind of person we all hope we can be. This story is simply perfect.

Shivering, Nicky draws in tighter on himself. The room they’re being held in is small, but it’s drafty. The vents keep letting in more bursts of air, and they took Nicky on his evening run. He’s wearing shorts and a T-shirt, and the sweat has long-since become cold and clammy against his skin. He has no real concept of how long they’ve been in here, but he knows it’s been at least three hours. That makes it past midnight. There are goosebumps on his knees.
To his left, Joe shifts.
Nicky starts.
“It’s okay,” Joe says, voice hushed. It’s an improvement over the first hour, when he wouldn’t stop calling for help even though there was clearly no one listening. “We’ll be warmer closer together.”

Summary

Nicky is a werewolf who has grown sceptical of the potion, as he feels increasingly like there is something missing from his life that used to be there, if only he could remember.
A chance encounter sees Nicky rescue Joe from a sticky situation. Although apprehensive of each other at first – they are a vampire and werewolf, after all – Nicky offers to help Joe when his friend goes missing. As they embark on a journey through the night, their lives unravel before them: where are all these memories coming from? And is this really the first time they’ve met?

The story grabbed me from the first paragraph. I thoroughly enjoyed their meetings through time, but ache that they kept losing each other over and over. So glad Nicky and Joe finally figured out a way to keep their memories and each other. Like many of my favorite reads, this story inspired me to make cover art.

*chuckles heartily* I was "exposed" to George of the Jungle because my younger sibs watched. If asked, I would have thought I didn't remember anything except George himself. But your story brings it all back -- Ape, the dog-elephant, the good-heartedness combined with cluelessness that George has obviously taught Little Fella... this is just So - Much - Fun!!! I wouldn't have thought that this crossover would work, but it does, marvelously well. The SPAG is not pristine, but this whole concept and execution is absolutely delightful. Settle in to be thoroughly enchanted by Little Guy of the Jungle.

Great crossover case-fic, with Tony and Daniel working flawlessly together, each having the other's back as they deal with overcoming their situation. I love the way Tony just 'goes with the flow' when he's so unceremoniously dumped into the SGC shenanigans, and that it becomes a springboard for moving on to a better team and job. Thoroughly satisfying all around.

He counts Nicolò’s breaths in Arabic, and in Tamazight. Then he counts them in Sabir; he could not tell that story about his grandmother and the za’atar in Sabir, does not have the words for such things in the language of commerce, but he certainly has the words for quantities and prices. Then he counts Nicolò’s breaths in Greek, because that at least he can do in Greek, more or less, and it takes more concentration than the others, so he counts and counts and counts.
Yusuf does not know how to count Nicolò’s breaths in Genoese. He wonders if Nicolò counted his breaths, when he was sleeping.

This is just beautiful. I love that Nicolò wasn't a soldier and that Yusuf worked for a merchant rather than being one himself -- ordinary men doing the best they can in extraordinary circumstances. The author gives us a very cool reason for Nicolò to have a basic knowledge of Arabic -- always curious about the places he's in and the people he meets. I also like the feeling of 'fatedness' that strikes them, and especially Yusuf's cogitation that, even if circumstances had changed, they might still have been destined to meet.
This feels like an AU to me, given that it's (comics) canon that Nicolò was a Crusader -- but it's an AU that I'm fully on board with. Despite the violence of the fighting, Nicolò's non-intention of joining the war makes him feel "softer" somehow, and Yusuf's recognition of that allows them to meet each other on a more even footing.
The author has done a superb job, both in the story-telling and the technical aspects of writing; this is a delightful take on their early days together, and a believable basis for an easy acceptance of each other as traveling companions, friends, and lovers.

Summary: Nicky is a burned out doctor who needs a vacation. Lucky for him, his friend Nile asks him to pet/housesit while she is on her honeymoon. Surely it can’t be that hard to look after a dog and a cat? But when things go hilariously wrong, Nicky calls the number left by Nile for any emergencies and Dr. Yusuf al-Kaysani picks up the phone. But maybe this veterinarian can help more than just the pets? A modern romance with cuddly animals and love at first sight.
Note: first part of story deals with a refugee crisis, and people in danger in over-crowded boats. Several drown, including a small child that Nicky is unable to save.
Reaction: When Nicky is haunted by what he's experienced, he is forced to take leave and recuperate. From there, the story becomes a sweet, fun, mortal AU meet-cute. When Nicky attends Nile's wedding to Booker, he meets best-man Joe, to their instant mutual attraction. Then it turns out that Joe is the vet for Nile and Booker's animals while Nicky is house/pet-sitting during the honeymoon. Nicky and Joe continue spending time with other as their friendship -- and attraction -- deepens and grows, facilitated by cute animals and snarky Andy and Quynh. Plenty of fluff and good food and gorgeous art from Gness add up to a delightful story.
