Summary
There is silence between them while Yoongi stares, while he scans every contour and detail of Namjoon’s face. And he searches his mind, trying to match this Namjoon to any scrap or recollection. Trying to find what everyone tells him should be there, over a decade of memories. Familiarity, comfort, love. But there is only a blank space.
“I don’t remember you,” Yoongi whispers.
Namjoon nods and bows his head, folding over the hands clasped in his lap. “I know I can’t convince you that we’re together, that we have been. But we are, Yoongi.” He peeks up at Yoongi, eyes pleading. “We have a life together, we love each other.”
And Yoongi still stares, something in his chest aching at the desperate, hopeful expression on Namjoon’s face. But there is nothing there.
“I’m sorry.”

As the years pass, Yoongi can’t help himself from reaching out and holding Namjoon’s hand, when the others can’t see him frowning but Yoongi can. He can’t help himself from sprawling across Namjoon’s lap in the little sofa in the studio, when Namjoon looks so tired and so stressed and there’s only two weeks until the deadline on the next track. He can’t help himself from smiling, pleased, when Namjoon crawls into Yoongi’s bed late at night, muttering that he can’t sleep. They move dorms, gain privacy, change roommates, but Namjoon still keeps coming.

Because there’s something about Yoongi he can’t push out of his mind, something sharp and lingering that refuses to fade.
Maybe it’s the beauty of his delicate features, or the way his skin looks so eerily soft, impossibly smooth.
Maybe it’s the three silver rings that decorate each ear—one on the helix, two on the lobes. They glint against the jet-black of his hair, and Namjoon often finds himself wondering how they’d feel against his lips. Cold, probably. Cold and sharp against the heat of skin. He wants to bite them, tug them, hear Yoongi’s breath hitch in surprise. Hear his voice break, finally."
Namjoon can’t stop thinking about the quiet grocery store cashier who never smiles. Yoongi is distant, guarded, and clearly wants to be left alone. But Namjoon sees something behind his eyes. And he keeps coming back, hoping Yoongi might let him in before he disappears completely.
AKA a story of falling in love and healing.
