Steve’s stomach churned in anticipation. After discussing everything in great detail Eddie had told Steve to relax, that he’d take care of everything. Now all he had to do was wait, which turned out to be so much harder than having the conversation. He couldn’t stop thinking about it, it was taking over his every thought, and causing more than one awkward boner while at work. The fact he hadn’t been caught sneaking to the bathrooms to take care of it was a miracle and he was left with the shame of being that guy who jerked off at work.

He’s done his best to keep his anxiety under control—Robin keeps reminding him that Eddie is not Nancy—but he still feels like he has to get this right, has to make it the perfect anniversary or Eddie will leave him too.
So when a migraine attack hits him on their special day, Steve tells himself he just needs to nap some of it off and keep to their plans—after all, Eddie did get them “sports game tickets” as he so eloquently put it, and Steve doesn’t want to waste this opportunity of a partner actually showing an interest in the things he likes.
