I have pondered the question of Serial Designation J learning to live after all the bullshit she's had to go through, so here we are. It's been a long journey, huh? From just a cute little remembrance fic to whatever the hell's going on here. But most of all, I hope the journey was fun!! I hope to hear all sorts of bewildering thoughts from this! Sure, it's not horrendously dark! But that's fine. Also, in general, I just can't see J healing from the cast, not because they suck, but because they just aren't what she needs. They have too much inherent bias against her, so I'd rather her have a fresh cast to follow!!
When considering J, I believe wholeheartedly that there is so much undeniable richness to her character that is not the easiest to convey in any semblance of writing. Especially since we were given so little of her. Which is why I hope more than anything that this is enjoyable! Also, unfortunately, 100k in one go is like a lot, so I had to split it into two parts! But it is what it is! If you absolutely love a long read, this one's definitely for you!! Hope any who gander enjoy the shenanigans!!

"Oh, that's J. We kind of just keep her around?" N explained, noticing her line of sight.
It was hard to tell past the yellow acid surrounding it and grayish spit coughed down its front, but Uzi was pretty sure that was a murder drone chained to the pod's wall. It was lying on the floor, steaming slightly from the puddle of its acid, but its visor was glitching so badly Uzi wasn't even sure it was aware.

After the Solver leaves to attend some business off world, Tessa must overcome hopelessness, identity conflicts, and the guard Cyn left behind to watch over her, in a desperate attempt to escape, and perhaps someday, confront her old friends on what happened the night of the Gala.

I was inspired to take a bit of a deeper look into J and why she might be acting the way she does, likely an AU since I'm fairly certain we'll get more insight into J in the coming episodes. But I basically asked myself "What if the corporate shill persona was a tragically over developed coping mechanism, and J got a taste of both N and V's worlds of forgetting most things but still knowing bits and pieces." Which leads to the obvious question, why is she trapped in the purgatory of knowledge?
This has slowly grown into an exploration of the parasitic relationship between the solver and it's "Cute Puppets" and how it enforces it's will on those beneath it. Slowly isolating them by feeding their desires till they self destruct and give in fully to it. But is there a way back from this state of social decay? Serial Designation J is going to learn the hard way "Is this good for the Company?" Comes with numerous strings, some of which are very sharp, attached.

”...I will.” Cyn said firmly, the answer coming from her very soul. Even if she would be forced to make challenging choices, she owed it to her people to bear any burden so that they could be free, even if doing so would bring Cyn endless suffering. She would kill for their liberty and die for their prosperity. No matter the cost, she would see her people unchained.
