Mother gasps from the edge of the clearing. “Aelwyn, no,” she says, breathy and quiet, as she rushes towards the thing that looks like her daughter.

Only a week or so after that incident, Adaine asked him if she could borrow some notes of his on something he’d researched before. If they were anywhere, they’d be in his briefcase, but when he reached in to grab them, his hand remained inexplicably empty. He tried again, calling the notes to him. He felt a definite tug, confirming that the folder in question was, in fact, in his briefcase, but before they could be summoned to him, something else tugged back. Hard.
Adaine was looking at him expectantly.
“Just having some trouble with my briefcase. Not entirely sure what it could be,” Riz lied. He had a very strong suspicion as to what, or who, might be causing this, but he didn’t particularly feel like bringing up Baron and reigniting that conversation. “I’ll have to go in and take a look. Be back in a second.”***
There is an evil goblin mannequin living in The Ball's briefcase, and Riz can only ignore them for so long.

“So, you don’t have anything better to do with your time?” Fig asks.
Riz thinks about the agenda in his briefcase, broken down into fifteen minute increments. He has exactly one and a half hours designated for today’s outing with Fig before he needs to rush home to cook dinner for his mom. After that, he has to shower, do his homework for Survival class, start Kristen’s essay for her Linguistics course, and then pack his bags for school tomorrow. He’ll have time for four, maybe five hours of sleep before he has to get up, make breakfast and coffee, clean his room, and then catch the bus for school tomorrow.
It’s fine. It’ll be fine. He has plenty of time to get everything done as long as he follows his schedule to a tee.
“Nope, I’m all good.” Riz takes a deep breath and tries to let it out smoothly.
