Newt wakes up feeling sick. As much as he tried to hide it nothing get's passed Hermann. Hermann insists on going to medical, but the biologist is stubborn as always and doesn't listen to his lab mate's advice.
This particular argument can go either both ways: completely destroy the little peace they had, or form a new bond between them.

Summary
The Kaiju War made private universities nearly broke. A lot of money went to the Jaegar program, building repairs, hospitals, etc. There just wasn't enough money.
Luckily, Newt and Hermann are able to have jobs in the MIT. After almost three months of bliss a surprise visit in the university will threaten to stumble Hermann’s peace that took him a long time to build. And it seems that Newt is going down with him.

Summary
A year after the events of Pacific Rim, Hermann Gottlieb rejoins the PPDC and finds it has changed drastically in his absence. He and Newton Geiszler are asked to pilot the Jaeger Occam's Razor, despite physical and mental handicaps that should bar them from becoming Rangers. The world is shifting violently in the absence of Kaiju, and the new Jaeger program is formed with questionable motives. Even as the k-sci boys struggle to understand their feelings for each other and where they fit into a system torn by revolt, they must also deal with the lingering presence of the Kaiju hivemind and a new wave of monsters completely different than any that came before.
