It feels like those nights back in Australia. When he had still been figuring himself out. Sometimes the nights would bring with them too much. Too much tension with his parents, with his father specifically. They never yelled, but the air would get thick and Mick would find himself staring at his own feet to avoid snapping at his father. It wasn’t good for anyone to talk back, it would only make everyone angry for longer. That tension, the anger he would bottle up in the moment, the sadness it would churn up when it felt that his father wasn’t proud of him.

His tone is so joyful. He reaches forward and grabs 10k face by the jaw, holding it so tight the sniper fears he’ll break.
“Now you will only be making this worse for yourself, so hold still.”
And as he reaches forward with his other hand, it suddenly comes into focus. It’s a spoon, heading towards his eye. Panic intensifies beyond his control, tears form, his body trembles. He pulls desperately against the man’s hand, trying to avoid the utensil.
“No- No! please, please don’t,” he begs, words bubbling up over the blood in his mouth. This is the only time he would ever beg, “Don’t- don’t take my eyes please!”
“Aww,” the man cooed, affectionally patting his face, “We aren’t taking your eyes . . . just one of them.”
