You promised, and you meant it, and you failed; but you tried. Oh, you tried. Katie looks at you now with fear in her eyes. She tries to hide it, looking down at the table, but she can't stop glancing up at you between dice rolls. You look away, trying to make it easier on her. There's so much you want to tell her, so much you still want to talk to her about, but the words get tangled up on the branches growing inside you, caught in your throat, building into one silent, desperate cry: I love you, I love you, I love you, I'm sorry. It's for the best; there's nothing you can say that won't hurt her more.

The half-elf feels himself exhale a breath he wasn't even holding. "I had to return home for awhile." Scott watches as the knight and mage try to both attack the baby zombie, the two struggling quite a bit with Bek's spear not quite being able to aim and reach a creature so small, and Cam's stone sword not doing quite the damage needed to fully kill it.

Summary
When Cam was asked to assist the red kingdom in a time of war, he accepted. He has been exiled from his home, thrown out as if he were nothing. Cam didn't have a home anymore. Nothing to lose, nowhere to go. He expected it to be a fresh start in his life, perhaps planned by fate. If fate was real. Maybe he wasn't as damned as the townsfolk thought he was.
He didn't expect to be met with ruins of what was once a kingdom. He expected a castle. It didn't have to be grand. But the wooden walls, broken buildings and whatever was left of the castle? Well. Maybe he expected too much.
He didn't expect to be coronated the king of said ruins either.
