    “I’m Midoriya Izuku,” he said, extending his hand. “By the way.”
    The boy didn’t take it right away.
    Instead, his gaze dropped to Izuku’s hand, lingering on the scars that crossed his knuckles and fingers—old fractures, healed wrong. For a moment, his expression flickered with something Izuku couldn’t place. Hesitation. Fear.
    Then, slowly, the boy lifted his own hand.
    He reached out.
    And passed straight through.
    A sharp, electric chill tore up Izuku’s arm, pins and needles erupting where their hands should have met. The sensation was wrong—too cold, too empty—and Izuku gasped, yanking his arm back as if burned.
    “What the f—”
    He looked up, horror flooding his chest, green eyes blown wide.
    The boy only smiled.
    It wasn’t the dazzling grin from before. It was smaller. Sadder. Like he’d known this would happen and had been bracing for it all along.
    The boy laughed softly, as he said, “Name’s Shirakumo Oboro,” he said. “And I’m— well. Not—”
    The word landed fully formed in Izuku’s mind before it was ever spoken.

    Ghost.

    OR:
    Izuku gains the ability to see ghosts. So now he has to figure out how to solve the death of a boy who shouldn't exist.

    A fake Craigslist ad for a boyfriend seemed like the perfect way to ruin another uncomfortable dinner. He expected trolls, maybe a scam or two. Not… whatever this was.

    It was supposed to be a joke.
    It’s getting harder to remember that.

    "Come on, Midoriya, think about it. Showing up to the family dinner with a surprise husband in tow? Someone they've never met – never even heard about? Who's…" he cleared his throat, glancing away for a moment with pursed lips, "at least twice your age?"

    Izuku considered it. He hated that he was considering it.

    Upon seeing their future successor, One for All takes the opportunity presented to them and transfers to Izuku. Said kid doesn't notice that he has a quirk, but he does wonder why he's suddenly compelled to walk around certain places for absolutely no reason at all. Meanwhile, Yagi Toshinori runs around the city, trying to find the elusive, possibly ninth holder of his quirk, Midoriya Izuku.

    Or: One for All is a haunted quirk. Fate has long been determined. Naturally, this ends up in a ridiculous cycle of missed chances and failed attempts to talk to each other.

    Izuku gets sent back in time from a future of disaster.
    But the human body isn't meant to twist through time. It warps. Things change, meld, fray, and something that isn't quite human is left in its wake.
    Through it all, however, Izuku is still Izuku. He still loves his class, and wants to be a hero, and wants to save people.
    Maybe this time, he will do better. Maybe this time, he will save his loved ones, and the world.

    His eyes are a black hole where stars have survived. It is all-consuming grief, with only the tiniest pinpricks of hope. There is no green, no white, simply darkness upon shadows upon a void.

    Ink-lashings tear their way out of his arms, and Izuku screams, iron on his tongue to match the ground, but all he can see is that image, over and over and over, embers to ash to flame, and Shouto is gone-
