Leo blinks as the words filter through his brain. “Wait, did you… steal Donnie’s wallet? Michael. I’m so proud.”
“Noooooo!” Mikey snickers, like a liar. “He just leaves stacks of bills around his lab sometimes! And Dad’s always telling him to clean up, yeah? I’m just doing my brotherly duty and lending a hand!”
Leo cackles, using his free hand to scrub the top of Mikey’s head in an adjusted noogie. “You are completely in the right and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Now, help me finish this so I don’t get a cramp, and we can be on our way, yeah?” Smooth as anything, he tears the donut in two, making sure to hold the half with more cream out towards his brother.
Mikey’s smile fades a bit, but bolsters a second later. And when he reaches out to take the offered half-donut, something anxious and fluttering in Leo’s chest settles.
Or: just because you love someone doesn’t mean you understand them.

Raph seems to be fumbling a little with the reel of bandages that he’s trying to work around their little brother's leg, and whilst Donnie was often a turtle of high patience, bad medical practice was something he couldn’t let sit in wait.
“No. No that won’t hold,” he tells him, already moving in to take it away from him. “Have you even washed it?”
“Yes,” Mikey is quick to say, tensing even more than before. “It stung like shell. Please don’t do it again.”
Donnie’s eyes catch sight of the Pure Vodka bottle that was now situated on the table beside Mikey’s other curled fist.
The purple banded turtle gives Raphael a sharp look in return, only for Raph to shrug his shoulders at him, feigning some kind of innocence.
“You idiot. Ugh, hold on.”

It was late for Donnie, but not so much for Leo, only a few hours behind, he glances at the blinding lights of his computer screen where he watched the clock he’d installed tick the seconds away in the Central American time zone, only a little past midnight, he’d have assumed his brother was still up.
But this wasn’t the first time he’d been met with the robotic tones of his answering machine rather than his actual brother — earlier today, he’d sent him a message to confirm their arranged call time, only to get something short and blunt back in response, a one worded: okay that was now feeling further and further from any sort of promise nor commitment.
It didn’t hurt any less, however, each time Leo fell flat on these arrangements. Each time the phone would call off, or when he’d just another one worded text back if Donnie was persistent enough to call again and again and again.
It would always say something like, sorry or busy.
No real solid explanation no real apology that was due.

Raph balks, almost losing his footing entirely, though it feels as if his stomach does most of the hurtling towards the ground without him.
“In the past?!” The wind carries his voice as it dances past them, and Donnie aggressively shushes him with a frantic and angered flap of his free hand.
“Oh. Oh I’m gonna kill Renet. I’m gonna hog tie her, trail her up the Bloomberg and then launch her butt off of it.”
Donatello, whom had since endured his entire life so far to hearing such far fetched, angered fuelled, petty threats, took less notice of this one as he did with most of them.
