Summary
San Francisco is smoggy, overcrowded, and full of some of the wildest people Hawkeye has ever met. The fact that BJ Hunnicutt lives there is nothing but a coincidence spun into a blessing in disguise.
Or,
Draft cards are being sent out like candy to young men, the Detroit Riot is being printed in every newspaper coastline to coastline, unrest between the US and Soviet Union is growing by the minute, and there's absolutely nothing that can be done about any of it. Regardless, Hawkeye finds himself in one of the many large demonstrations in San Francisco when police storm in to break it up. He never meant it to be a tipping point in his life.

Summary
It's about three months after everyone split up and went home.
As hard as BJ has been trying, he can't manage to fit just right back into his family. He felt hollow; there was something he left behind back there in the war, and if he doesn't find it soon, he might never feel right again.
Hawkeye's been struggling, too, his restlessness worse than usual and thoughts too fast to catch most days. He knew what it was; he was lonely, and as much as he wanted not to be, he couldn't bring himself to meet new people, either.
Maybe the answer was easier than anyone thought.~~~
Aka, BJ Goes to Maine.

Summary
BJ won't say goodbye. Hawkeye doesn't understand what seafood and beach games have to do with why that makes him want to cry.
“He won’t say goodbye, Sidney.” Hawkeye grits out eventually, feeling each word pull itself through his teeth. He presses his hands harder into his eyes, rubbing furiously, as if to ward away any presumptuous emotional responses. “It’s not fair! Even Trapper left me a -” Hawkeye cuts off abruptly, trembling.

Summary
Hawkeye is institutionalized after returning to the states post the finale. While there, though with reason, doctors find out about his relationship(s) with other men and, as was typical for the 1950s, treat it as a mental illness. Torn between his feelings for Beej (who is back in California per their agreement), his relationship with his father, and not wanting to get electroshock, he fights for freedom and a future.

Summary
It had been around then that BJ decided enough was enough and called for a little reinforcement. If Hawkeye wasn’t comfortable talking to him about what he was going through, then maybe Sidney could help. Hawk had initially fought him, saying that it would be no use, that he couldn’t be fixed, that he didn’t want to be locked up and prodded like a specimen again, but all it took was one teary look from BJ for him to cave in.
