Summary
The thing was, Jonathan knew he was a queer before he knew what the word actually meant.
He was seven years old.
[...]
Steve, in Jonathan’s opinion, was never a queer. Steve was painstakingly normal and average, which made it more confusing and frustrating that he kept choosing Jonathan again, and again, and again——at least, until sometime between 5th and 6th grade. Queer became less of a playground insult and more of a disease, a death sentence, and they slowly stopped hanging out.
Steve and Jonathan used to be friends. They weren’t anymore. That was the way things were.

Summary
Jonathan and Steve haven't spoken in months. Steve almost prefers it that way, because at least he knows how to act. Don't get too close, don't get caught staring, don't let anyone know--they're easy rules to follow.
But, when Jonathan goes missing, and the quiet town of Hawkins is suddenly not-so-quiet, it becomes harder and harder for Steve to hide the truth. He's not even sure what the truth is, anymore. He's not sure he wants to find out.

A rewrite of S1 centered on the premise: What if Jonathan went missing instead of Will? (And: What if Steve and Jonathan were childhood friends turned enemies turned lovers turned enemies again?)Series

Summary
“If you could see one person one more time before the big bad Ruskies obliterate us,” Robin giggles, “who would it be?”
Steve has been feeling so wonderfully unabashedly honest for these last few minutes or months or however long they’ve been here, tied together in their Scoops uniforms and possibly dying from beating-induced brain hemorrhages or Russian poison that he says, without hesitating, “Jonathan Byers. And I’d give him a big ole kiss.”

Summary
Steve falls asleep on the carpet, head tipped back against the old couch. Jonathan debates waking him. Doesn’t. He drapes a blanket over him instead, careful not to touch too much.
Steve murmurs something in his sleep. Jonathan’s name, maybe. Maybe not.
Jonathan sits on the edge of the couch and listens to Steve breathe until the tightness in his chest eases just a fraction.
He doesn’t question any of it.
He’s tired of questioning things.

Summary
So there's this allegory about boiling a frog where turning the heat up ever so slightly over time prevents it from noticing the danger and jumping out of the water.
This is that, but it's about touch starvation, a psychic, and a spirit medium.
