Summary
Paintings scattered the walls that almost seemed to move on their own–as if they were breathing. The floor was covered in miscellaneous garbage, including a lamp standing on (hopefully) fake human feet, a glass vial filled with some mysterious blue liquid, and a whole lot of bandages.
But the most disturbing thing definitely had to be the sculpture of some sort of owl-faced tube. Michael had to pinch himself to check if he was dreaming.
He wasn’t, unfortunately.
“HIA, PAL!” The sculpture greeted. “I’m HOOTY! HOOT HOOT!”

New York City, 1942. Maxwell Carter, known for his magic show business, was very quietly placed in charge of his niece and her well-being; Despite desperately not wanting to, Maxwell takes her in. However, half-heartedly watching over a grieving little girl is bound to come with troubles. New York is no place for a child roaming free.
This story is based off an AU where I simply throw everyone in The Constant into America's Great Depression; gun violence, drinking in the open, black magic.. the usual. Be prepared for mentions of World War II, there's a lot of it.
Chapter 1 and 2 production will begin January 10th, 2026. This story deals with some mature topics, and trigger warnings will be stated on chapters. I thank my beta reader, and all of you for pitching in to make this happen.
