He can't get another teaching position in Antiva, moving back to Nevarra would be a nightmare, and no one wants to hire someone his age. After months of not receiving a response to any of his applications, he's starting to lose hope and feel like a burden for taking up Bellara's guest room without being able to pay his share of the rent.
Until a mysterious letter slips through the mail slot one stormy night, with nothing but his name written across the back in beautiful calligraphy and a purple wax seal on the front depicting a crow in flight, holding a dagger in one talon and a human skull in the other.

"I wouldn't phrase it in such a blunt manner," he replied, setting his teacup down on the table with a soft clink. Lucanis watched as Emmrich's long fingers curled delicately in his lap. "But yes, in essence. Spite craves physical intimacy. Wouldn't it be worth indulging him, just to find some peace?"
Lucanis felt a flash of embarrassment rush through him. This conversation was a disaster. He looked to the ceiling, wishing he could melt into the floor.

Q’s eyes met Bond’s as he very gradually closed the distance between them, never blinking, even as his lips brushed 007’s in a shared breath that was electric with promise. “Mutually assured destruction.”
