Claude hadn't known that telescopes were banned when he first smuggled himself illegally into Fodlan, but even if he had, he still would've brought his telescope with him. Unfortunately, that little detail of 'distance-viewers' being banned meant he had to be careful when and where he stargazed. Luckily, he found the perfect spot where no one would ever find him.
Dimitri also found the spot where no one (else) would ever find him, catching him and his wrongfully persecuted telescope red-handed. What better way to buy the prince's silence than with a bribe? He'll get Dimitri hooked on stargazing in no time. Besides, stargazing is always better when shared with others.

A warrior culture respects a king who is a fine warrior... and, fortunately, Faerghus was a warrior culture all its own as well.
But there's something besides diplomacy that has Dimitri determined to rise through the bracket and emerge victorious as a champion. A prize he seeks to earn.

“Something like that. Although home gets more complicated the longer I think about it. So, as of now I’m trying not to.”

Following his rescue at Derdriu, Claude agrees to stay on with the Kingdom army until the war's end. Byleth manages to fit him back into their monastery rounds.
Or, a love story told in monastery explore dialogue. Or, six conversations Byleth has with Claude (that are actually mostly just about Dimitri), and one Byleth really shouldn't have been present for at all.

Claude brought one hand to his hip, digging into skin with his thumb, the closest thing he would consciously allow himself to a tell. It was fine, then. There was no need to keep… observing, let alone ask, because that was Claude’s answer, as if it hadn’t already been clear enough.
But Dimitri took a measured breath—his version of a sigh, Claude suspected—before saying, “No, you are right, of course. I really should get in some training before the exam. I am somewhat worried about some of the more... sophisticated maneuvers associated with the physical portion of certification. Combat archery demands a certain grace that I tend to find lacking in myself.”
“I could always help you out.” The words escaped Claude before he had even registered their existence, before he could catch them and force them back down.

Moving on, Dimitri focused on the question at hand. “You wish to… spar?” He pressed his lips together, faintly, unsure. “With me?”
Claude raised his eyebrows. “That a problem?”
Dimitri bit his tongue to hold back his first response, 'it’s strange enough to warrant scrutiny,' and then his second, 'I hardly ever see you here even with those you are more inclined to pass the time with,' as well. He shifted his stance and rested both hands on his hips to dissipate the thoughts further, concealing the unfavorable judgment to the best of his ability. He studied Claude for a moment, not bothering to attempt to hide it. Claude stared back, affably unreadable.
“No, it’s not.” Dimitri decided. He smiled, small and anticipatory. “Pick your weapon.”

Sunset, alone together at the training grounds, and Claude wants to spar. Certainly, Dimitri thinks, this is the one situation he can afford to feel as though he's entering it on an even keel.
