“Yeah, you’re right, I’m traveling. Been tons of places.” Setting down his suitcase, Edward begun patting down his vest, proceeding to comb his fingers over long, sleep-frazzled locks of hair, and tighten his ponytail holder; a bright, rubbery red thing.
“As for who’s waiting for you?”
Picking up his suitcase and pacing a few steps forward, Ed’s face contorted into a different, more smug expression. The suddenly large, wolf-toothed and almost unknowingly mischievous smile gracing his features almost just slightly hinting as to what he would say next--
“The emperor.”
--Four years after the Promised Day, Edward Elric finally gets around to visiting Xing. It spirals into feelings he doesn't want to acknowledge, old wounds reopening, and a few new ones as well. Literally.

If Ling is to speak honestly, he didn’t think Edward would take the deal.
Edward is quite a prideful person who refuses to bend to authority. If he did not want to do it, he simply would not. If he did not like how you spoke to him, mainly in regards to his height, then he made sure that you knew. Always defending himself, his freedom and autonomy.
Greed knew this. In the memories Ling could see of the previous Greed, he may know this better than he thought he did. Better than Ling. The thought leaves a sour taste in Ling’s mouth.
