“Me,” said Merlin. He threw the blanket off of him, and gagged. “Fuck. No.”
Arthur sat up even straighter. Almost as if he cared about Merlin’s unease. About Merlin. But that wasn’t possible. It wasn’t.
Arthur moved closer. “What’s the matter with you?” He grabbed Merlin’s arm, pulling him towards him to look at his face. He sucked in a breath, noticing Merlin’s eyes, which were most certainly glazed over, if Merlin’s hazy vision was any indication. Arthur pressed the back of his palm to Merlin’s forehead. He swallowed. “You’re burning up, Merlin. Are you ill?”

“Kid, I’m not sure that’s a good idea,” said Two-Bit, eyes flickering over to Pony from the driver’s seat. “He’s the one who’s staying over while Darry and Soda are out of town, not me.”

“Good morning, Sleeping Beauty,” Dustin snarks. He rolls his eyes and heaves himself out of the passenger side of the bimmer, slamming the door behind him. He sticks his head through the passenger window, offering Steve a sarcastic sneer. “Have a good nap?”
Steve smacks his lips and swallows hard, but the odd metallic taste doesn’t leave his mouth. Dustin huffs at his lack of response and smacks the flat of his palm against the side of the car. Usually, Steve would reprimand him for that, tell the kid something about the paint job, or dents, but Dustin storms out of Steve’s sight before he can catch up to the situation. Steve’s slumped over the steering wheel, letting it press into the side of his face and his ribs, a radiating ache, but he knows the moment he moves, the pain will flare into something sharp and unbearable.

In one story, Bob Sheldon attacked Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade at 2:23 AM on the morning of August 26, 1965. This set off a chain of events leading to the deaths of three teen boys: Bob Sheldon, Johnny Cade, and Dallas Winston. In this story, Ponyboy Curtis, preoccupied with a murder charge, never found the time to loathe his older brother, Darry Curtis Jr., for hitting him fifteen minutes prior to the attack.

“Not willingly,” Steve muttered, crossing his arms and matching Hopper’s posture. “Little Byers did some ‘b-and-b’ hoodoo on me. Kid’s got wicked puppy dog eyes.” Hopper hummed.
“Disarmingly earnest, aren’t they?”
