If he’s dying— if these are truly the last words that will ever be spoken between them— there’s only one thing he can say. “I love you. I’m in love with you, Mike, please. You can’t go. I love you so much,” Will whispers, cradling his body to his chest.

    Will confesses his feelings as Mike takes his last breaths— and then Mike decides to be a stubborn asshole about it and survives. Will is left to deal with the aftermath of his choice, navigating an awkward new friendship.

    Bad news.
    They found El or Will. The upside down was back. The nightmare wasn't over. Something had to be wrong.

    Mike felt a pit in his stomach start to grow. He couldn’t do this again. He clenched and unclenched his fists. Mike's job was to protect -to be the heart- and if something happened to one of his friends. Oh he couldn't imagine.

    Then he heard it. The small coo of a baby.

    He turned to where Owen’s sat on the couch holding a baby. He looked up at Mike and said (in a way too calm voice given the situation) “I need to call on you for a favor.”

    Set 4 years after high school graduation where Mike Wheeler ends up the single dad of little Willow Janet Wheeler. This is a heartfelt story that follows the complexity of Mike and Wills relationship as well as Mike and Willows as she grows older and learns more about what it means to love and be loved. Good thing she gets lots of examples even if Mike and Will don't know it.

    The thing was, Will loved Mike. He had always loved Mike. Loving Mike felt less like a choice and more like gravity. Something he’d learned to live with, something constant and unyielding, even when he’d tried, desperately, to move on.

    “Your… your what?” Will managed finally. His voice sounded distant to his own ears, thin and unsure.

    Mike swallowed. “My boyfriend,” he repeated, a little quieter this time, like maybe if he said it softly enough, it wouldn’t sound as insane. “I need you to be my boyfriend."

    After coming out, Mike asks Will to pretend to be his boyfriend for a trip home to Hawkins. It seems simple enough.

    Except pretending is harder when you’ve already been in love for years.
