Kristen shoves her slightly, and Fig pats her on the back, shoving her lightly towards the church in retribution. “But seriously. If you need to get the hell out of there…”
“German Shepherd mode. Got it!” Kristen says, and with a pair of finger guns, slips into the church.
Fig’s vision clears, and she stumbles as she catches the drops of blood pooling in the palm of her hand.

Maxwell just tuned out the conversations instead, glancing around the street. It was dark, and unlike home, where the street lamps took up entire avenues, and the light pollution was so strong you could barely make out the clouds, here, the stars were scattered on full display. Not that Maxwell liked stargazing. He didn't. But he couldn't help his mind from straying, and his legs, too, as he glanced around the street and felt himself drawn towards the patches of voices outside of the bars and those establishments his dad would call rowdy-
"Where are you going?"
Maxwell turned around quickly, expecting his father's stern expression or Samwell's weary one, but instead just found himself facing the wide-eyed girl - Olethra - from before.

It’s Gorgug who voices it, surprisingly. He sits on the edge of his seat, his hair tied out of his face into a loose ponytail, the white streaks beginning to fade slightly. Gorgug speaks with his hands more than he used to, now — they’re almost always gloved these days. “I mean, I don't want to speak for everyone here, but… if someone curses you, they’re going down," he says, offering Fig a smile.
Fabian nods in agreement. And maybe it’s just because it’s late and he’s delirious, or maybe it’s because he’s slowly starting to lose it as he watches Gorgug speak with so much more confidence than he used to, a steady presence around the table. But for a moment, Fabian’s stomach drops with anticipation, the same sort of rush he gets just before a fight.
Or: A wedding is planned, Fig gets cursed, emotions aren’t processed, and the sea is unchanging.

Kristen knew griffins were supposed to be dangerous, but the girl spoke of them with such ease that it surprised her. "…Are you an animal tamer, too?"
"Nope," the other girl said, popping her 'p' with a flourish, "but my mama is! But she didn't teach me how to heal people. My pa did. It took a long time," she rattled off, "and a lot of Bible study, and a lot of irrit- irr- anger? on his part, and it only works for grazed knees and real little cuts, but-"
"I - I want to be a healer too, some day, but... you're much better at it."
"Nah, I've just had practice - I can show you sometime!" With that, she stood up and held out a hand. It wasn't demanding, per se, but it was certainly insistent. "And I don't really want to be just a healer - I want to go out there as a Paladin, a bit like my pa!" It seemed very noble to Kristen, so she just nodded solemnly and took her hand to pull herself up.

Good Face also has, upon further inspection, a goose in his lap. Curt hadn’t initially recognised it because of, first of all, Good Face’s very good face, and secondly because she isn’t doing what Curt’s goose is doing. She’s curled up happily in Good Face’s lap, head tucked beneath her wing, so that the overall effect is that of a puddle of feathers and down rather than an animal. At the distinctive sound of Curt’s terrible goose waddling over Cynthia’s polished hardwood flooring, she lifts her head out from under her wing, blinks big dark eyes once, and then retreats back to rest, shuffling gently to resettle herself. A model of serenity. She reminds Curt of a children’s book illustration of a goose more than anything else, what with the angelic white feathers and the perfectly orange beak. Good Face smiles gently down at her, stroking over her wing.
“What the fuck,” Curt says, betrayed and directing the question to Cynthia for reasons he doesn’t quite understand, “Why does he get a nice goose?”
Curt’s goose honks, offended, and bites his leg twice in quick succession.-
It is a lovely day in the American Secret Service headquarters, and there is a horrible goose on the scene.
