“Princess, I don’t think you realize that whenever you’re in the room, everyone’s attention is naturally drawn to you.” He told her, giving her a sheepish smile before turning back to the castle.
Zelda felt her cheeks warm up as her lips parted in surprise at his words. Then she shook her head, bringing Link’s gaze back to her. “I’m the princess who likes to hide from her own citizens. No one notices me unless I’m standing right next to my father.”
Link shrugged, his eyes avoiding hers as he faced her. “I guess it was just me, then.”

Her mouth, tongue, teeth, and lungs moved on their own. The noise they made working all together was: “Yes. Hylian. Man. Wait…no.” That wasn't right. He...had a sword on his back. She shook her head, until another word dislodged from the silt of her brain, and floated up, shining. Relieved, she said: “Knight.”
Post-TOTK fic in which Link finds Zelda, but neither are healed completely.

"The disaster of the Calamity has been averted by the Princess of Hyrule and the Hero chosen by the Master Sword. However, the one who aided the stoic and mysterious Link is not the same Princess named in the legends of old. Second Princess Zelda and her twin sister, Crown Princess Hilda, have a very strained relationship as a result. And to make matters even more difficult, their father King Rhoam has decided that one of his daughters must marry the Goddess's chosen hero to ensure Hyrule's continued safety. A story of self-acceptance, learning to rely on loved ones, and the darkness the heart is capable of succumbing to unfolds in this new era of Hyrule's history."
This story will be told in four "Books," following separate arcs. Each Book is a continuation of what came before but are largely meant to be self-contained journeys focusing on several themes. Here is the breakdown of each Book and the progress of the story overall:

As a knight bound by oath, Link adhered to a strict code of conduct that governed his every waking hour. He wasn’t to deceive frivolously, he was to extend a helping hand whenever possible, and he would never, under any circumstances, presume to declare his undying love to Princess Zelda. It was unprofessional, if not unethical. He was tasked with her safety, and that included sheltering her from the burden of his emotions. And so, Zelda was kept in blissful ignorance to the heart she held in her hands.
The chivalric code was strict, but it wasn’t unforgiving. There were allowances. Small things Link could do to express little shreds of his love, if only to keep from exploding. To keep from shouting out his devotion for Zelda, her fierce determination and her unbreakable spirit. He kept his silence for so long, he thought restraining himself would be natural, but then she would laugh, or look his way, or hum if he was lucky, and he was a beat away from saying ‘I love you’. It was too much to hold in. Too much to hide, so he began giving Zelda small tokens of his affections. Subtle gestures, unnoticeable, and easily misconstrued as a part of his duty to the Princess’ safety.

Sheik spent her childhood hopping from one excavation site to another with her researcher aunts. She got to see the world and watch her aunts use explosives to remove the Divine Beasts from the rock. She got to learn how to fight and how the ancient Sheikah tech worked.
While her aunts grew progressively more nervous every time the king sent a letter, Sheik found herself looking forward to them: They were always delivered by the same knight, who always brought his son along.

Zelda thinks of herself as a fact-driven, scientifically minded person. She takes in information, plugs that information into her view of the world and hopes to come out with reasonable conclusions. However, the way she views Link seems to be the exception to this rule. For when it comes to him, she knows herself to be foolish and impetuous and ignorant of her own heart.
Or, Zelda makes the same mistakes all over again.

Summary
I love the Regency Romance genre, and especially love Georgette Heyer novels. I was kind of surprised I didn’t see any other zelink Regency AUs because the story certainly lends itself to the genre. Well, be the change you want to see and all that. This story is mostly a Heyer-inspired series of tropes all strung together. Don’t overthink anything I came up with, I went with a lot of semi-plausible stuff that served the story I wanted to tell. It’s also not gonna be historically accurate so don’t expect that either, this is Hyrule, not England, and I can do what I want.
