One day while Remus is off an a mission, Regulus suddenly appears alive in his old bedroom, except he is not the Regulus Sirius remembers, he is only 13 years old. Frightened and anxious, having just woken up from 1976, Regulus looks to Sirius for support and Sirius tries his best to help do what he failed to do for his little brother the first time.
OR...
Sirius is out of Azkaban and Regulus is dead, then he isn't but he is a child now?
first couple chapters are admittedly kinda crap but they get a lot better

Summary
They did it. The Marauders signed a recording contract. And the first people they wanted to tell were their friends and families. So, they flew home, disrupted Christmas, and made it a holiday worth remembering for everyone! There was dancing, drinks were being shared, and mistletoe was being passed around for inappropriate snogs that would be cheered on by adoring friends and families.
Almost six years later, the Marauders are a household name. But the only household they're banned from is the Black family. Its just not the Blacks that you would expect.

Summary
How will Sirius react to his death? Would he grieve? Would he scoff, disgusted at how weak his little brother had once again proved to be? Would he be relieved that Regulus was finally gone? Would he cry, if not for Regulus now, for the child that he had once cared for? Or would he not react at all? Would he glance at the paper, shrug, and go back to his morning tea?
Loathe as he is to admit it, that’s the idea that frightens him the most. Sirius had been his everything once. (Maybe he still is, not that Regulus would ever admit it to himself.) And he likes to imagine that once he had been as important to Sirius as he was to him, at least, before he had gone off to Hogwarts and met the infamous James Potter. Before Regulus had been sorted into Slytherin, just like the rest of his family, and any hope that his brother may have once had for him had faded away in an instant.
Or: To escape a life he doesn't want, Regulus tries to kill himself. It doesn't go according to plan, but sometimes that's the best thing that can happen.

Summary
Regulus was always quite fond of death. So when he was forced into defying the Dark Lord and his parents, he was excited that it would lead to where he meets his end. Even if that meant finally doing what he had feared for so long.
After being neglected of an option to do anything else besides searching for Voldemort’s secret—and finding it—he wound up in a cave that he just knew would be his resting place.
Except it wasn’t.
After achieving the goal, he was forced into death’s grip but then instantly hauled out before he could be relieved.
Waking up in the body of his 11 year old self with a brother that cares for him once more is the exact opposite of what Regulus needed.
He needed death, not another chance.
Or…
Regulus comes to terms with his life and only hopes for a way out. He didn’t however hope for that way to be through time rewinding until he was back to his first day of Hogwarts, completely erasing the past 7 years. Nor did he ever hope to meet James Potter again.
