Summary
After defeating Corypheus, Lavellan thought the worst was behind them. When Cullen is captured and exposed to red lyrium, the Inquisition loses its Commander and Lavellan loses the man she loves.
The two face diverging paths forward: Lavellan attempts to find purpose in life after the end of the organization they built together, and Cullen must find a way to come to terms with the darkness he's faced for a decade before he loses his memories of her forever.

Summary
Kirkwall is known as the “City of Chains”. Its jet black walls feel like an appropriate backdrop for a site whose history is filled with dark and bloody deeds. It is also where Theresa and Cullen have decided to make their new home, now that the Inquisition has been disbanded. Together with Cullen’s youngest sister, Rosalie – an apostate and now Theresa’s pupil – and their mabari Cal, they make a valiant attempt at settling down and starting fresh. But the past will not stay quiet, and unresolved hurts begin to fester, spreading their corruption into the present, and possibly poisoning any future they hope to build.
This is part two of an ongoing series, but I’ve done my best to make each arc work as a standalone, so feel free to start here if you like! Please take careful note of the tags. I will be including CWs at the start of relevant chapters, and will do my utmost to approach these topics with sensitivity and compassion. Take care of yourselves!

Which begged the question: why didn’t the kingdom have an actual queen? When, in reality, it had one in all but name?
Or, how it took Alistair Theirin twelve years to make an honest woman of Elissa Cousland...

At his suggestion, they spend their honeymoon in South Reach with his family for a long-awaited reunion, where Theresa begins to recuperate. But when all the bustle of duty and danger is gone, she is left with only herself, and has to relearn who that is.
