Taking in a clutch of Nadder Natchings, the Riders expected dealing with an onslaught of stray spines, fire, and squwaks that kept them up through the night.
What they didn't expect, was for one little hatchling to remind them so strongly of their leader.
It all unravelled from there.

The roof on the smithy collapsed inward. Hiccup sighed. Ruffnut and Tuffnut looked at him in awe.
Hiccup hadn’t known it then, and wouldn’t ever know it, but that was the day that he first truly began falling out of favour with his father - and the day that he began falling into favour with the most insane duo on Berk.
Or, thanks to the fact that Hiccup seems to screw-up everything he touches, the twins follow him around for free entertainment. What they didn't sign up for was friendship.

It's not that Soren begrudges them needing a dad in the first place. Kids are supposed to have someone to, like, nag them. To care enough to nag them. To make dorky jokes for them to be annoyed by, and be someone they can talk to if they want (and maybe sometimes if they don't). And to be proud of them and their kingliness and elven sneakery and magic magehood.
It's more that he doesn't have the training the job really demands! The background experience. There must have been a time that Viren was a good dad and not just a disappointed and distant one—it wouldn't have been so hard to part ways with him, otherwise—it's just too far back for Soren to draw on now.
But you can't choose your family. You get stuck with them and then you just do your best by them. The last time around, Soren suspects, maybe his best should have been better.

Kitty could tell by the tone of his voice that he was finally getting more serious about the whole thing. “But I think we can do this. Surely… We can afford one bombastic adventure like this, sì? Like we used to?”
Kitty looked at his pleading eyes closing her lips in a thin line. So that was what all of that was about: an ode to their glory days. How fitting it must have seemed to him, that their next heist would take place during a fancy ball. How exotic. How… so much like his old self. Or rather, their old selves.
Still, she could tell by his eyes he wasn’t taking that lightly, not as much as she had initially thought. He wasn’t being reckless, he just… wanted to feel the thrill of it all once more. Maybe… for the last time?
“Just… indulge with me, amor. Just this once”, Puss pleaded in a soft, delicate voice. Well, that was new. “Will you?”Planning to steal an important pendant, Team Friendship goes to a royal ball. Puss wears a dress, Perrito gets drunk and Kitty gets to show off her skills on the dance floor.

Kitty finally put her glass of leche on the table, and sat down, opening her sapphire eyes. She glared at him from the other side of the room, apparently dead serious, but he noticed the upper corner of her lips lifting ever so slightly, just what he needed to know they were on the same page. They were tangoing again, the two of them, and they were tangoing together.
Kitty picked up his boots and got off the table.
“Why?” she asked, her voice coming out husky. “You won’t need them where we’re going, gatito”.
Puss could have sworn he heard that damned cat go “ooooh” in the background.

After saving San Ricardo, Puss and Kitty finally get some time for themselves. What Puss envisioned as an ordinary night of passion, turns out to be a new addition to a on-going string of novelties.Series
